USC is going to complain about the BCS until they get back on top again. They have to blame someone or something because we all know that no one is better than they are, right?

I wrote this article for UAB's school paper on "How to Fix the BCS" Give it a read.
Okay, we all know that the BCS is bad for college football, but good for the guys who make the money. Therefore, to satisfy both college football fans and the guys who make the money, I’ve come up with the answer to the burning question, “How does one fix the flawed BCS?” Yes, I have the answer to the million dollar question.
First of all, there would be an eight team playoff bracket. Just like college basketball, just with 57 fewer teams. Each major conference, that is, the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-10, Big East, and the ACC is forced to add a conference championship game if they don’t already have one. This is how 6 of the 8 teams would be decided. Whichever team wins the conference championship game earns an automatic bid to the tournament. And if the best team in the conference doesn’t win the championship game, then they miss out on the tournament and have to settle for the Gator Bowl or something. If they weren’t good when it counted, then they don’t deserve to be included in the playoffs…unless they make the tournament as an “At Large” team.
“At Large” teams, or the best teams from the six major conferences that didn’t win the conference championship game, would make up the last two playoff spots. But then you bring up the question, “What about the Independent schools and the “Mid-Major” conferences?” Well, I have the answer to that too. We all know that the only Independent team that’s any good is Notre Dame. The solution to this problem is that Notre Dame would not be allowed to whine. If they don’t want to join the Big East in football like they did in basketball, then they’d better make sure they’re good enough to win an “At Large” bid. Plus, if Notre Dame joined the Big East, it would give teams like West Virginia and Louisville some competition, and make the Big East much stronger.
Okay, now for the “Mid-Major” conferences like C-USA, Mountain West, MAC, WAC, etc. None of these teams are really good enough to contend with the big boys like Ohio State, Michigan, Auburn, and Texas on a regular basis. Therefore, you’d keep the current non-BCS bowls reserved for “Mid-Major” teams and the teams from the big conferences that didn’t qualify or lost in the conference championship game. All of these games would be played before the tournament, which means that December is still crawling with bowl games, which brings me to the structure of the playoff system.
The eight teams that make it to the playoffs would be seeded from 1 to 8 (using the BSC system if we must, just to keep things interesting). Then to please the guys that benefit from all the money that the BCS bowl games bring, the first round of the playoffs, 4 games, would consist of the current BCS bowls. The Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Rose Bowl, would still be in tact and therefore the sponsorships could be kept and the money could be made. Then the next two games for the 4 teams that move on would be two new bowl games. Call them the Kellogg’s Cereal Bowl and the Charmin Toilet Bowl or something. This creates even more sponsorships and more money. Then the two teams that make it to the NCAA Championship Game would play for all the marbles and all of college football would know who the real best team in the country is.
Doesn’t that sound great? I think it does. You know how much everyone loves March Madness? Think how awesome January Jubilance would be! Hopefully someone who has college football authority and some common sense will read this and make some serious changes to the college football post-season.

I hate the argument against the playoff system that TRIES to say that they're "Just Kids", and "Student Athletes" and "Not Professionals"...........Really......REALLY? OK, here's how it works, for you dipchicklets that don't understand. An average year at a division 1 school costs about 45K - So, if you multiply that by 5 (one red shirt year included), you end up with 225K over a 5 year period. These kids ARE professionals. The only difference is, someone decides that their money is going towards college. That's not even COUNTING the bucks that the boosters give them. Geesh, now, on top of that - do you HONESTLY believe that the kids are NOT practicing right now? REALLY? R E A L L Y? Do you think that they're at their respective schools going over a history paper - or Game film on Ohio State? R E A L L Y? Cmon - you have to have a better excuse for NOT having a playoff than that.

1st: do you realize how long your moronic playoff scenario would take??? these kids are STUDENT athletes. now a plus one playoff would be fine. have 1 play 4, 2 play 3 and the winners meet in plus 1 bowl game for the championship. thats the best solution. the reason PROFESSIONAL sports have such an extension playoff system is because theyre PROFESSIONALS. thats all they have to do.
2cd: TO JAKE
when has USC EVER complained about the BCS????? you must have them confused with florida and their ***** *** coach crying every week begging the media to put them in the title game. Coach Carol would never complain like that. he never has and never will. after the loss to OR ST he said it was a tough loss and all they can do now is win out and let the voters decide. not once has he lobbied like a whiny politician for his team.

I agree with a Playoff don't know if your idea is the right one there are so many teams that way it would make the season that much longer and that much farther past the end of the semester but yes something has to be done

this can be the 12 months that ticks off some human beings. OU may bounce Florida and Texas yet Texas beat OU by 10 on a nuetral web site. Utah will in common words be ranked about sixth. yet they beat i imagine 3 ranked communities. So perchance after this 12 months there'll be a playoffs.

yes it is wack and i think that u should only play the teams in your conference and the top 2 teams advance to a playoff and u just keep doing that because teams that deserve to be in the National Championship (UofM) arent and its just fair because the best team could get beat by the worst team...

I am glad my Gators are playing for the BCS championship. However, I agree that a playoff system should be implemented. Go Gators.

Michigan goes instead and beats Ohio State....1 to 1 now...do we have a "sudden death" afterwards to determine the Champ.....Florida was the only logical choice.......Ohio State will rip their hearts out!!!!.....Just wait and see!!
