-- Have a bath or shower.
-- Lie down to rest in a dark room.
-- Avoid bright or flashing light.
-- Put something cold on the back of your neck, such as
a cold, wet cloth; or alternate hot and cold cloths
where the pain is.
-- Put a cold compress on your forehead and your feet in a
container of warm water.
-- Have a drink of water or natural juice, especially tomato juice.
-- Have some food, or a nutritious drink, if you
haven't eaten for a while.
-- Massage your own face, head, neck and shoulders, or get someone
else to do those and your back. Relax your muscles.
-- Press on two pressure points at the back of the neck. These
points are about two inches apart, just below the base of
the skull. Press for a minute or two. This releases
endorphins that help against pain.
-- Massage or press on the fleshy area between thumb and
forefinger.
-- Gently lean the head to left or right to stretch the neck muscles.
Massage and relax any tense muscles.
-- Avoid sources of stress. Cancel activities so there's less
to worry about.
-- Avoid exercise during a headache if it makes throbbing pain
in the head and neck worse. On
the other hand, generally exercise improves health, and
it may help you relax during a headache.
-- Take some niacin (a form of vitamin B3). Taking enough
niacin to cause a flush (blood rushing to the skin) can
provide relief from headache pain, but this much niacin
can also have side effects (flush, nausea, heartburn,
liver damage, etc.) Niacinamide doesn't have such bad
side effects, but isn't as much use against migraines, either.
Smaller, safer amounts of niacin are also helpful.
Niacin can trigger a migraine, though.
-- Take some vitamin C, vitamin B6, choline, tryptophan and niacin
and/or magnesium.

Also, maybe get your eyes tested?

I also have migranes. I have had them since I was a child, probably about 5 years old. I was CONSTANTLY visiting the nurologist. I've also been on Imitrex and that did not work. There are also a series of other medications that I was put on that did not work.

They say that Calcium is actually supposed to help with migranes. This could be something to look into. Perhaps taking a calcium suppliment along with a multi vitamin might help.

Sometimes putting a cool compress on my neck helps, and other times putting something warm on my neck helps. A nice hot bath(which somebody has mentioned) and laying down with the lights off also helps, if you have all day to do nothing.

Going to the chiropractor (which I see somebody has already mentioned) helped me while I went. I would go twice a week (tuesday and thursday). I did this for about 2 months. I was supposed to do it for about 6 months.

Though I did not finish my treatment, I still notice that I have fewer migranes than before I ever went. I reccomend checking it out.

There are also many foods that triger migranes. Cheese and bananas, 2 foods often eaten, are said to trigger migranes, even if you arent allergic to these foods. My doctor is the one who gave me the list of food triggers. Perhaps asking your doctor if he knows anything about that might be beneficial.

Good luck.

I don't know of any natural cures, unfortunately. Imitrex doesn't work for everybody, so make an appointment with your primary (or specialist) and tell them that it isn't helping and that you're getting them twice a week. They should be willing to have you try something else. Also, if you're getting migraines twice a week you might want to ask about going on a preventative.

A good vitamin may help - but make sure they are made with natural ingredients and not synthetic ones (like most over the counter multivitamins) If you email me I can give you information on a direct buy store that provides the best natural supplements that I have found and they are guaranteed - take for 90 days and if you don't feel a difference in your health and vitality, return the empty containers for a full refund - you've nothing to lose and possibly better health to be gained - I wish you luck in finding something that works for you.

feverfew.an herb (plant of the chrysanthemum family) used for the prevention of migraine headaches. It is more widely used in England than in this country. Potency varies from one preparation to another since this herb is not regulated by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. There are anecdotal reports in the medical literature that it is helpful, but no carefully controlled scientific studies.

I suffered migraines for years....then I went to a Chiropractor...It didn't happen overnight, but soon I could see a decrease in the migraines and I have been migraine free for over 3 years now...try it, most insurances cover Chiropractic care. And good luck.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

It depends the type of migraines you have.
In my family they have to do with the liver.
I tried my dad's recipe and it seems to work: take a glass of lemon juice mixed with a tablespoon of oil of oil, it's better if you drink it before you had any food. It's a bit weird, but it seems to help. I guess it helps to "clean" your liver.
