As far as I know, crack and freebase cocaine are about the same thing. Freebase is a slightly more general term, though, because it refers to a cocaine solution that can then be hardened into crack. In common usage, though, the two are pretty much the same.

The form of cocaine he is smoking is referred to as "crack". Freebasing is what you call smoking it. Does this clear things up for you?
