You could use an atlas here. The Alps is a mountain range in Northern Italy, also in France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. By the time the allies reached the Alps from Italy, the war was effectively over. The allies reached the Alps in about April 1945, the surrender was May 7 1945. Much more important in this campaign were the Apennine mountains.
