I want to analyze a liquid sample of 3 components. Can I make external standards of each one of them diluted in the same solvent as the sample (3 reference curves) in stead of making a reference curve for the whole sample?

Yes, you can do that. In fact, it would probably be helpful in identifying each component unless you already know the elution order of the three compounds.
