He should drag his fat *** out to first base a few times a week like most "players". Must be nice to sit onhis rump till it is his turn to bat while everyone else is husting out on the field.

You could make a point for both Ortiz and Morneau, who both had much better years at the plate than Jeter did (HR, RBI, SLG, OPS, etc). Jeter did have a good year defensively, but still not even deserving of the gold glove he won (far worse feilding % than Alex Gonzlez).
The MVP award is NEVER predicated upon defense! Stop lying to yourselves and saying defense factors into the MVP award. Both Rollie Fingers and Dennis Eckersley won the MVP award and neither played offense!
Answer Guy who said Ortiz can't "field at all"...perhaps you forgot him playing first base in the '04 world series and having the smarts to catch Suppan sleeping at third and throw him out, basically saving the game for the Sox.

I agree with you that if not Jeter then Ortiz but Jeter deserved it hands down. My problem with Morneau is that i can name three guys on the Twins that meant more to that team then him. Santana, Mauer, and Hunter. Now i know all of you wonder why Hunter but did you see the stats he had the final two months? He was on fire and the man that brought them into first place. Morneau had a good season and got their offense going after a slow start but if it wasn't for Hunter's injury he may have had just as good of numbers at him and his stats down the stretch were great. But, obviously everyone knows the heart and soul of that team is Johan Santana. When Liriano went down Santana just stepped up and became the most dominant pitcher in baseball, he also won the triple crown in pitching. My top three would be Jeter, Santana, Ortiz.

Big Papi was the player who was "Most Valuable" to his team, which is what the award is all about. Papi's walk-off home runs and hits carried the Red Sox until the team fell apart late in the season. Without him, the Sox would never even have contended. As for those who say he shouldn't win the award because he doesn't play in the field too often, has anyone ever won an MVP based on his defensive play?

For a DH to be MVP he would have to be head and shoulders above the rest of the league, and the rest of the league would have to be "off" that year. There should be some offset for not having to field a position and all of the wear and terar you avoid, not to mention the extra prep time you get to study tape and so forth. Papi benefits from Manny's presence in the lineup as much as Manny benefits from Papi. You can't separate the two. For me the definition of MVP is who meant the most to his team all year, not necessarily who had the best stats. Take Jeter and all of the little things he does that help the Yankee$ and they are a totally different team

There is no way that David Ortiz should ever win the MVP award. All he can do is hit. He can't play in the field at all and that is his major downfall. In 2004 A-Rod won because of his play at third base which was very good that year. This year I think Jeter should have won but he didn't. Morneau did. And I guess I can't complain. His numbers were very good. But until Ortiz gets out there and plays some first base his numbers should be discounted.
And I hope the Yankees never sign Manny to play for them. They don't need him.

Sorry, yet Manny is the real MVP. His batting conventional is larger than Ortiz's, his SLG is larger, his OBP is larger. His fielding is larger than people provide him credit for. the reason Ortiz has maximum of sport prevailing hits is using the fact pitchers are extra terrified of Manny, so as that they could desire to pitch to Ortiz. you are the fool in case you're thoroughly unaware of the numbers. Manny and Ortiz have practically a similar SLG, yet Manny's OBP is very practically 40 factors greater. it somewhat is by using fact Manny would not have between the sport's appropriate hitters conserving him, so he leads the league in walks. Manny could get an help for each RBI Ortiz gets, by using fact he's the reason Ortiz sees maximum of solid pitches. The worst element you're able to do as a hitter is make an out, and so some distance this season Ortiz has made 39 extra outs than Manny. that's a sport and a a million/2 properly worth of outs top there. once you upload interior the undeniable fact that Manny performs protection, that's a no-brainer that Manny is extra helpful than Ortiz. Admittedly, the gang could be thoroughly sunk with out the two of them. yet Manny is larger.

Easily Big Papi. He is a power hitter who comes throgh when needed most. He has a smile that light up not only a room but the entire stadium and Red Sox Nation! Manny may go but I don't think he is going to the Yankee's. But if he does he can sit right next to Damon since that would mean they did the same thing. Overall, Manny's time has run out in Boston. He is a great hitter and outfeilder when his head is in the game but when it's not it's not.

I'm a huge Red Sox fan but Ortiz didn't deserve it...the Sox blew up down the stretch...you've got to get to the playoffs or at least very close if you're going to be an MVP.
My vote would have gone to Johan Santana. But I'm just glad Jeter didn't get it, since he wasn't even the most valuable Yankee (Rivera was).

I think there are a lot of players who desereved it. It's really hard to pick one specific player. So I'll just agree with the decision that was made Mourneau had a monster season and was probably the most consistent bat for the Twins all year.
