Donald Rumsfeld noted that his own strategy in Iraq was not working and called for a major course correction.

Most significantly, Rummy urged a change from “Stay the Course” to an admonition to the Iraqis to “Drop your Cocks and Grab your Socks” — which itself is unlikely to work, given the fact that the sock factory in Baghdad has no electricity, thanks to “Operation Iraqi Freedom”?

There is a strange phenomena with megalomaniacs. They document their insanity.

Like the Nixon tapes the Hitler books Ken Lays board meetings and the Bush live feed from the oval office.

Go big Red Go

I think it's interesting that a memo regarding a differing opinion on the war showed up on Bush's desk the day before the elections. The day after the election Rummy was gone. Does anyone really think that Bush decided to give in to the prevailing opinion among not only Democrats and the American people, but many Republicans that Rumsfeld had to go? When has he EVER given anyone but himself credence and followed their advice when it differs from what he wants? He is notorious for ignoring advice that doesn't coincide with what he already believes. Honestly, it's a mystery why he bothers. He's been running his Administration with "yes" men and women since he was elected. I think it indicates that even Rumsfeld was seeing the truth and found it impossible to keep up the President's policies any longer without speaking to what he saw as the truth. I'm not a fan of Rumsfeld, but he's not the first Republican to take a stand against Bush's policies. I think he was fired because he finally got the stones to say what he really thought, and Bush just didn't like it. Forget prevailing opinion, in Bush's office, it's only his opinion and those who always agree with him, that counts.

Man Shoots Self in Foot to Save Butt in History

Now, he can say to the world, 'See I was ready to change, but I got fired instead".

Its fascinating that Bush won't listen to the report he claimed was a bipartisan work that would be fair. Now hes going to wait for two more opinions before doing anything. Or one of them agrees with him. Or hes out of office. Which ever comes first.

I wish it had been a Kerry moment, a botched joke as opposed to almost three thousand of our best dead, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

In his resignation Rummy was consistent with his tenure as SECDEF: He made the wrong decision at the wrong time and followed through with the wrong tactics.
