I read somewhere that you gain weight during your period. I also read that your hips look slightly wider and stretch marks can appear. Is this true? Just wondering since I've never noticed anything different in myself during that time. Is your period supposed to affect your weight at all?

Each woman is different when it comes to periods. What is normal for one may not be for another. If you normally gain weight in your hips or stomach first then when you retain fluid from your period that is where it is gonna go first. You should only get stretch marks if you gain alot of weight like over 30 pounds other wise the stretch marks are already there the fluid retention just makes them show more because the skin is stretched from the fluid retention. Also some women may never cramp when they have there period and for others it is so severe they need prescription medications. I will include a list of symptoms for periods. Like I said some have a few of the symptoms others don't or have others.

Menstual symptoms:

Fatigue
Low Iron
Fluid Retention
Thirst before period starts
Craving for Chocalate or sweets
Cramps
Blood clots
mood swings
hormonal changes
some woment their ph balance changes and they get yeast infections.
Pimples that take a few days to go away

If you are prone to yeast infections or only get them while you are on your period make sure you don't use Always products. It has a plastic layer on it and it holds in moisture.

As some before said, yes, you can gain some weight with water retention (water weight) but also some women eat things that are less healthy during their periods and gain some weight that way too. I know I have that problem some times too, but it is a simple matter afterwards to just exercise off the two or three pounds brought on. I've never noticed stretch marks either.

I know I gain up to 5 pounds the week before my period. It is from bloating and your body retaining water. Almost every woman eventually gets a little wider at the hips, but I never noticed stretch marks.

It's called bloating....water weight. It goes away after the first couple days of your period. Your hips might look bigger, but that is to attract a mate. Back in the caveman days, this was a sign that the woman was ready to conceive. Stretch marks don't appear during your period...unless you eat like a pig and gain 10+ lbs during your period (but that doesn't happen).

I keep watching the Always adverts, and they say that you gain weight during periods (in fluid though). If you drink more water then the body will flush the extra weight/fluid away...apparently.

no, thats ridiculous, that dont happen to me, i know we get bloated, so we may feel heavier or fat, but it goes away, something to do with retaining water, not too sure
