we both do MMA (mixed martial arts) we just did a 5 minute round and i let loose

No- you were both engaged in an activity that you both voluntarily agreed to. However a nice "sorry I broke your ankle and nose" greeting card might be in order.

Also if he tries to sue you- just do it again.

That really depends on the circumstances. Generally speaking, however, even if it was a situation where the two of you were just working out in your back yard you both assume the risk. He would have to show negligence or wrongful act on your part in order for you to be liable, and again, if he got together with you for the purpose of combat training then he should have known the danger up-front. It's really hard to say without knowing all the details and the laws of your state...

I am guessing that you are military and if so, then no you shouldn't be held liable. Your supervisors should be held accountable, considering the fact that they put on the training.
