I suffered extensive spinal inuries in the line of duty (firefighter). My only course of LEGAL treatment for severe pain is taking prescription narcotics, that are highly addictive and possibly deadly. My doctor is forbidden by law to even TALK to me about marijuana- so I went to Amsterdam and found out for myself. I am currently in college and hold a GPA of 3.82 (A- average) and I smoke several times a day. I do not know where the myth of memory loss and brain damage comes from, but in a society where we take a pill for every ache, pain, and mood swing- why should marijuana be Illegal? ALmost every civillized nation in the world has determined marijuana has medical benefits and the dangers are outweighed by the benefits of the drug. Certainly there is the sterotype of the clueless stoner- but this is an image that occurs in every part of society- cluless boss, teacher, cop, etc. - WE jail one out of every 38 people in the US and have a higher incarceration rate than CHINA- actually the US has more citizens in jail than ANY nation! In 2005 a new record was set for marijuana arrests- who is the victim of this "crime"? I am tired of people running at the mouth about dangers of this or that simply because they believe what they are told without any analytical thinking on thier part. Over 50% of U.S. citizens surveyed admit they have at least tried marijuana- imagine how many the REAL number is since many will not admit to such a thing for fear of becoming the ONE out the 38 who gets arrested and have thier lives ruined. As for bus drivers and teachers getting high while supervising YOUR children- what stops them from being drunk or hopped up on caffine or spaced out on anti-depressants? Our nation needs to shift focus to holding people responsible for actions that cause danger to others, not punish us for choices we make in private that do not affect others. WAKE UP PEOPLE! if you love the US government so damn much- embrace your right to privacy as well- stop being mindless sheep herded by the words of those with hidden agendas.
Most cops would rather use thier efforts to keep us all safe from violent crime- not spend hours in an office going over paperwork and ruining somone's life because they smoke a plant! WHy do we waste such a valuable resource as law enforcement on maintaining marijuana prohibition? Marijuana is lumped into the same category as heroin by our US drug schedule- WHY? Educate yourselves- don't just follow the propaganda that you are fed!

It should be legal. Katt Williams said it best when he said you have never heard of anybody OD on weed. You might think that mf is dead, but in about 20mins he's gonna wake up and eat everything in sight. Aspirin is completely legal and if you take 13 of them it'll be your last headache!

Weed is only a "gateway" drug for people who have an addictive personality. I've smoked every day for over ten years and have never tried or wanted to try harder drugs. I don't think that my memory has been effected by using marijuana either.

The government got this one twisted in my opinion.

Marijuana was originally outlawed for two major reasons. The

first was because "All Mexicans are crazy and marijuana is

what makes them crazy."

The second reason was the fear that heroin addiction would

lead to the use of marijuana. You can read the history of the

laws at

http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/mj_outlawed.htm

The reason that so many people have really stupid beliefs

about marijuana is because the US Government has had a

dedicated campaign of Reefer Madness since the 1930s. For

example, the US Official Expert on marijuana tesified in

court, under oath that marijuana could make your incisors grow

six inches long and drip with blood. He also said that, when

he tried marijuana, it turned him into a bat. You can read an

entertaining short history of the subject at

http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm

This question has been asked -- and answered -- by numerous

major government commissions around the world over the last

100 years. They all concluded that the marijuana laws were

based on racism, ignorance, and nonsense. They all said that

there was no justification for making marijuana a crime.

You don't have to take my word for that. You can read the full

text of them yourself at

http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm

The evidence is simply overwhelming. Do not accept answers

from people who cannot give you references to back up their

answers. Most people are completely clueless on this subject.

You will see what I mean if you compare their answers against

the information in the references I have provided.

Contrary to what others might tell you, there was no

conspiracy of industrialists to outlaw hemp because it was a

threat to their empires. You can read more information on that

at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/hemp_conspiracy.htm

Also, the laws were not due to real fears about marijuana

addiction. Nor were they because of lobbying by the

pharmaceutical or tobacco industries. If someone tells you

that, you can be sure that they haven't read the history. The

real history is far more interesting than any of those

stories, anyway. You can read more about why the conspiracy

theory is false at

http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/hemp_conspiracy.htm

It should absolutely be legal. I have also seen no harm from weed, but i have see SO much harm from alcohol and cigarettes. I know TOO many people who have died from either of those, but have never known anyone to die directly from weed, or from the effects of weed (driving while high). I don't smoke pot, but most people that i know do, and they are all normal people, and a lot of them are also very smart. Much safer alternative to alcohol, and i definitely support legalization.

legalize it... when will they realise it.

go to a site and get The Streets - The Irony Of It All. exactly what you need, trust me.

btw... the ONLY reason that is illegal is because the government cannot tax, because everyone would just grow their own and not buy it. but they are happy to keep selling you cigarettes which are grown with a radioactive substance called phosphate rock >>> no wonder you get cancer!

msg to ur a DEE DEE DEE... weed is actually an appetite suppresant and causes you to lose weight in the long run

It is legal here and I think it should stay that way. Although I do not do drugs and have never touched the stuff, I support it's legalization. Now we can focus our police force on more important things as opposed to busts. Yeah it's dangerous, but so is alcohol, and alcohol is legal.

Legal.

Marijuana is not a gateway to the use of hard drugs. "Cannabis itself is not a cause of other drug use. In this sense, we reject the gateway theory."

Marijuana use does not lead to the commission of crime. "Cannabis itself is not a cause of delinquency and crime; and cannabis is not a cause of violence."

Marijuana users are unlikely to become dependent. "Most users are not at-risk users ... and most experimenters stop using cannabis. ... Heavy use of cannabis can result in dependence requiring treatment; however, dependence caused by cannabis is less severe and less frequent than dependence on other psychotropic substances, including alcohol and tobacco."

Marijuana use has little impact on driving. "Cannabis alone, particularly in low doses, has little effect on the skills involved in automobile driving. Cannabis leads to a more cautious style of driving. [Cannabis does have] a negative impact on decision time and trajectory [however] this in itself does not mean that drivers under the influence of cannabis represent a traffic safety risk."

Liberalizing marijuana laws is unlikely to lead to increased marijuana use. "Data from other countries ... indicate that countries ... which have put in place a more liberal approach have not seen their long-term levels of cannabis use rise. ... We have concluded that public policy itself has little effect on cannabis use trends and that other more complex and poorly understood factors play a greater role in explaining the variations."

Marijuana prohibition poses a greater risk to health than marijuana use. "We believe ... that the continued prohibition of cannabis jeopardizes the health and well-being of Canadians much more than does the substance itself or the regulated marketing of the substance. In addition, we believe that the continued criminalization of cannabis undermines the fundamental values set out in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms."

Legal!

2006-12-08 04:08:22 · answer #8 · answered by Michael R 4 · 1 0

Illegal- we already have way too many stupid and lazy people, you really want more?! Weed causes memory loss, laziness, hunger (which leads to gaining weight), and overall stupidity. That's about 80% of the US!

Plus, it couldn't be taxed, so it wont be legal. But I do agree that it's safer than alcohol. You naver hear of too many people getting high and beating the hell outta someone.....

weed is illegal because people who smoke weed don't stand up for their rights and make it legal. Cell phones are expensive because people that use them don't stand up for their rights and make them cheaper. Housing is expensive because people don't stick together and stand up for their rights and make housing affordable. The powers that be are still using the old Napoleonic tactic of divide and conquer. What it boils down to is that PEOPLE have become cowards, and are to scared to fight for what they believe. A country like America was founded by people who stood up for their rights, fought, and died for what they believed.
