Let me see: Lit Brother's is having a sale - that is correct, I am sure.

Lit Brother's provides services
Kmart provides retail services

I'd say Smith Brothers provides the very best in...

The rule I use is if Smith Brothers is a trading name of Joe and John Smith, then they should be refered to in the plural. If, however, it is Smith Brothers Ltd. or Inc. then that is a seperate corporate entity and should be referred to in the singular.

Singular because you are refering to a single entity.

For example: Smith Brothers is a good heating company.

I hate this when it crops up, it's like team names...Everton are playing well....as in the members of the team...but as the team is singular - really it should be IS playing well.

Still don't sound right tho' does it?
