All the parking spaces available to my dormatory building are handicapped. There is only 1 person in my building who is handicapped and she doesn't drive. Each time someone parks there of course gets a ticket from University Police for parking in a handicapped space. The regualr parking lot is at least 1/3 of a mile away from dorms. What do you guys think, is this legal or what? Please!!!, I really need feedback.

I'm peeved because I can't park in front of my building that I paid to live in for the next few months. As if this school didn't milk me for the past 4 years, now they want more money out of me because of some handicapped parking space. I have so many tickets and I just don't think it's fair for all of the spaces to be handicapped. My building has 6 spaces in front of it, and they are all handicapped. There are 4 other near by dormitories and they also have all handicapped spaces. Some buildings even have as much as 9 parking spaces in front and all are handicapped. I just want them to make atleast 2 or 3 available in front of each building. Or lighten up on the tickets.

Of course it's legal. There's no law against reserving parking spaces for the handicapped.

Of course it's legal; and in most states and localities, it's required. Usually handicapped parking spaces are mandated by law, and the number and percentage are highly regulated based on the total number of parking spaces and, in the case of a dorm, possibly the total number of dorm rooms. Just because right now there's only one person doesn't mean that in 3 years (when you're gone) or 5 years, or 10 years, there won't be more.
Considering that the spots are going unused right now, there may be a way for the university to comply with the regulations and free up at least one or two more spots by the dorm. Perhaps they could make some of the "regular parking lot" spaces handicapped in exchange for turning one of the spaces by the dorm into a regular space (perhaps, even a 30 minute loading or unloading only space). It might be a reasonable compromise that falls within the law. I woudl also suggest talking to your dean of students or your student council (whatever it's called) to address the issue.

Nope, no longer except you're legally handicapped and have a handicap parking tag. think of of it this form. in case you may park a block away, you may walk. somebody with a handicap, strolling with crutches, or a lung situation taking into consideration under short walks would not have that selection. i became into legally handicapped for countless months after a extreme vehicle twist of destiny. till you have fairly experienced the choose for the handicap spots, you won't manage to take excitement in the could go away them for the bodily handicapped.

File a complaint with the dean/school senate. However, ADA states that the closest spaces to the building must be handicap accessible.

The city/town/village probably has laws on this, and it's probably legal to set apart some spaces for the handicapped. Supposing it is NOT legal, I suppose they COULD eliminate them since no one at your dorm needs them, but then there is the chance that someone who is VISITING might need such a spot, or maybe in a few years, a student might move in who needs one.

This isn't something one can fight successfully, I don't think.

They must really be afraid of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act, Sounds like they're going a bit overboard.

It is legal. If you are concerned with it, I would raise the issue with local government. I don't know if Student government has jurisdiction over that, you might have to talk to the city council or the county seat, depending on where the campus is located.

Talk to the dean--I believe it is legal. But if people are parking there who are not handicapped--then they can be towed and fined.
