I'm assuming you meen 4x4 as in cars.....The first number is the number of wheels on the vehicle and the second being how many are driven wheels. Most 4x4 require that the driver select to go into 4x4 mode and have all 4 tires being driven. Usually found in vehicles with some off road capability.

well, a 4x4 in lumber is a piece of wood, four inches by fours inches, a square post. in math 4x4 is 16, in vehicles, 4x4 is an awesome truck to have to go snowing or mudding in cuz all four wheels power themselves.
