If beach is the preference visit Varkala,kerala in south India or Goa.

If relaxation is what you are after Kerala is a dream.....fly into Kochi and spend a couple of days on a houseboat drifting through the backwaters. If India's lovely chaos is what you're looking for check out Varanasi, Delhi or Bombay.

Andamans for really secluded and beautiful beaches, with snorkelling.
Other out of the way places: Chikmaglur, Kodagu, Paudi Garhwal.
Hills: Sikkim.
