Recreation (Swimming, surfing, diving), fishing for food, shipping people and goods, exploring (some say it's our last frontier as we are still discovering new species daily) , Dumping (sad to say), and Oil exploration.

from the oceans comes a major percentage of the planets atmospheric moister, which translates to rain which we along with every other living thing need to survive

Humans are very dependent on the ocean. Even ignoring the effect it has on controlling the climate, the ocean provides food for millions, energy for entire countries, and a sink where we dump hundreds of tons of trash and waste every day.

I would say that we are quite dependent.
