I got to name the first baby, so now the wife has free reign to name the second. I don't like the flow of the name, and I don't really like the name Lucia. I like Antonia only because her nickname will be Toni. What say you?

Yes, we're Italian. I won't tell you my first daughter's name because it is so awesome and I don't want it to become popular!!!

I think it's very Italian, and very beautiful. I don't find it dumb at all.

Yeah, I agree with u. There's no flow to it. It sounds like u gotta drink something hard and heavy just to make it flow. There are other Italian names out there for girls which are more beutiful and sound good to the ear, and roll off the tonge much easier. But if ur wife sticks to her guns; then ur baby girl could be in a world of chaos all because of her name. Trust me, she'll probably want to be called Toni.

I love Antonia, i think it's great. But you're right, the combination is not musical enough. How about Antonia Maria, or Antonia Gabriella, Antonia Patricia?
Or Claudia, Isabella, Alessia?
If you're italian, you might pronounce Claudia the european way, not Claw-dia, but Klah-uh-diah (well, i gave it a shot, i know it looks weird :P)

You made the deal with naming the first baby so you really have to grin and bare it. It is a pretty name, I think, tho I understand why it might be a bit much for you. It is not a name kids can make fun of. One of the answers here said it means priceless light. That is beautiful. You will love and adore this baby no matter what her name is. And, again, you made the deal and you have to honor it.

I agree with you. Especially when Lucia would be properly pronounced Lou-chee-ah, right? The "ia" sound is repetitive and that is probably what puts you off. A better flow would be for the middle name to end in a consonant - or silent e.

I think it sounds beautiful. It flows and certainly is not like so many "cookie cutter" names that are all alike.
Also, the meanings of the two names go together :
Antonia : "Priceless"
Lucia : "Light"
"Priceless Light"... now that's a positive name !

I like the first name, but I agree I dont think it flows too well with Lucia because of the same endings, ia.
But its not stupid or horrible.

Do either of you have Italian heritage? I think it sounds good. Think of it this way, how many people go around announcing their middle names? Not many. Just go with the flow , she will mainly be known as Toni _____ (last name) . That's all that matters.
