My 11 week old just started showing signs of cradle cap a couple days before his dr. appt. I asked the dr what to do and she said that it is caused by overproductive oil glands. It will go away on its own, but you can prevent it and speed up healing by more frequent washings. You don't have to give him a complete bath every day, just get a small container and fill with water. put a little baby shampoo on the head and rub it in with the baby brush. Then wipe off the soap with a wet washcloth until clean. She instructed me to NOT put any vaseline on his head because it will not come off easily. And his head will look oily for days. She said that some patients swear by baby oil, but there is no proof that it actually works. I scrubbed his head lightly with the brush and shampoo, and then put a tiny bit of lotion on and it really helpled. Went away in about 5 days. Good luck!

I was always told to use oil. Prefferably mineral oil. You massage it onto the area(s) and then you let it sit for about 5 minutes or so. Then you take a baby brush or comb, the really soft kind just for babies, and you gently brush the area(s). The oil softens the cradle cap and makes it easier to get off. The mineral oil should wash away and I always bathed my baby right after. You may need to repeat the process over a period of days before it is completely gone. I've also used olive oil and it does the same thing but it doesn't wash away as nicely. Kind of leaves them a bit greasy LOL. Try the mineral oil, it should work.

My Nonnie always had a home remedy for this type of thing! She said to make a paste out of vasoline and salt, and apply it to babys dry areas after bath time. Avoid getting it it her eyes, and rub it in and let it sit. After about an hour, take a soft dry cloth and gentely wipe it off. Do this everyday till the cradle caps is gone, then after it is gone, apply Johnsons and Johnsons baby oil after baths. It works!

For the cradle cap my doctor said to gently scratch my finger nails on her head while giving her a bath. It didn't help too much and then my mother-in-law said to try a baby toothbrush with some listerine on it. I thought she was crazy but after just a few times of doing it, it's gone and it never bothered her a bit. She smelled minty fresh for a few days too.

the ideal element that worked for my 4 month previous son...replaced into Head & Shoulders. He had cradle cap sooooo undesirable! It replaced into caked on. We used Head & Shoulders and mutually as the shampoo remains on infant's head use a comb and merely comb the scalp. The scales will start to come back off. It would not harm infant. they could certainly think of it feels solid as that stuff could be itchy on the scalp.significant- merely be confident to no longer get the shampoo of their eyes!!! yet in 2 baths it replaced into thoroughly long gone from my babies scalp. And his head did no longer scent bitter anymore! YAY! solid success.

Avenno makes a two great products one is a shampoo for cradle cap and the other is an oatmeal bath. You can usually find it at Walmart or target.

Rub some baby oil into scalp and forehead (not in her eyes) a few times a day. It'll soften the dead skin and help it to flake off.

my son and also my friend's daughter both had this really bad. the only thing that worked for us was the "foam shampoo for newborns" by Mustela. it has salicylic acid in it that takes away the flakes and prevents newborns by slightly exfoliating the scalp. use that and a ton of aquaphor rubbed in the areas. it works really well! good luck and congratulations on your baby! oh and you can find mustela at BabiesRUs and the Right Start.
