Refrigerators are not a commodity! Either your question begins with a false premise or there is some sort of communication breakdown here.

The energy used to power the Fridge is a commodity, the food inside the fridge is derived from commodities, the fridge itself is a capital good. Had this question not been listed under "economics," the word "commodity" might have a different meaning.

You buy them, so I would think that would make it a commodity. The money you spend on them and the cost for making them would be how it affects the economic field.
Families can stock up and keep food in the fridge for several days, so they don't need to shop for fresh food every day.

Well for one thing the fridge and other home appliances certainly made it more feasible for women with families to work outside the home... before its invention, *someone* had to buy, find or gather and make fresh food for each meal--which when you're doing it all by hand is pretty labour-intensive and takes up a major chunk of each day's time. This "someone" was usually the wife and mother, who had to stay home to deal with all of that--as well as washing, cleaning, home repairs, looking after animals in many cases, etc.
