Having worked in a large store , believe me when i say that it can drive you nuts . You swear to yourself that as soon as no-one is looking you are going to throw the cd out the window . Then you think , they'll just buy another so you plot to get rid of the cd player . And by the time you have run through all the possible scenarios in your head , it's finishing time and you forget all about it . Until the next day when it begins all over again !!!!!

Oh how I agree with you.
I mentioned this to a woman in a store recently, and she said that she 'just tuned herself out.' But then, I rarely visit places like Virgin stores because (in part) of the irritating constant 'Muzak' played - LOUDLY too.
I have tinnitus, 'hissing in the ears,' and generally I'm able to 'tune out' ~ though it infringes on my ability to actually hear what I want to hear (it bloody-well gets in the way) at times ('sound' itself is very complex) ~ and often depends on the 'type' of voice I'm listening to ~ as well as the diction of the speaker.
I suspect that in a few years, there are going to be employers in Court for damages actions brought about by staff who have had their hearing damaged by the constant barraging of LOUD Muzak at work ~ constantly.

I used to work in retail for about 5 years , 15 years ago and listening to christmas songs all day long was torture. I worked in different shops and they all had the same christmas tape that is still played today. and it would be played over and over and over. Even know I cant bear any of those songs and dread shopping over christmas in case i hear it again. It really is hellish

Oh for sure. I worked in a Boscov's once doing stock work for the shoe department during the holidays. I THOUGHT I WOULD DIE. The music over and over and over again and again every single day to the end of January. I was losing my mind, believe me.

It drove me nuts, and even though it has been a few years since I worked in retail, I still can't stand Christmas music - especially the stuff they play on the radio.

Its just like having kids, you learn to tune certain things out. It does get annoying at times but you learn to deal with it.
