I have a Netopia router for my DSL and no wireless card in my desktop, but want to have my laptop wireless on the same connection. Is this possible?

My advice to you would be to setup your new wireless router and eliminate your old one. Your internet service provider will be able to assist you with this process.

Yes, you can add as many routers to your network as you wish. But I wouldn't recommend it. Here's why: any PC's connected to the first router will not be able to contact the PC's connected to the second router and visa-versa. This is because of a thing routers do called NATing. It separates your network into independent chunks: the "inside world" and the "outside world". Essentially you will be dividing your network into 3 chunks: Inside world 1, Inside world 2 and Outside world (internet).

Daisy-chaining your routers can also slow down internet speed and using 2 routers is a waste of electricity!

Usually, a wireless router has a few wired ports on it. So, if it has a wired port or two, you can remove the wired-only router, get it configured to connect to the internet (you'll probably have to call your DSL provider and have them walk you thought this) and then plug the network cable from your PC into one of the wired ports on the new router. You may have to restart your PC for the new network stuff to work, but that shoudl be about it.
