First let me tell you, that I am sorry, that your grandfather is so ill.
Your boyfriend might be disappointed and maybe even angry, but:if you don't go and he dies before you have seen or spoken to him,you will never forgive yourself.
So,my answer is simple:you have no other choice then to go home.
And if he truly is your friend:he will understand and support you:I know I would.
I wish you under these circumstances a peaceful Christmas.
Greetings:Rob.xxxx

As you have read from other posting-go see your grandfather.
At this time of year the real spirit of Christmas is in sharing(s) with family, friends, and loved ones.
Take your partner with you or at least offer to do so. That way he/she will feel wanted and be more understanding.
I get the impression there is more to your story as to why partner would not understand and only you can ans. that.
Please go see your grandfather no matter the risks. As someone has stated -you have to look in a mirror at yourself.

I would give my partner the benefit of the doubt and talk to him about why I need to go home to spend some time with my dying grandfather. He should understand. Good luck.

So sorry about your grandpa.

I would bite the bullet and go see gramps. If my partner didn't understand then he might not be the best fit for me.

Guys will come and go. You only get two grandpas

Why wouldn't your partner understand? You do need to go home and see him! My grandfather died several weeks ago and I'd give anything to see him one more time! If your partner cares about you then he will want you to be with your family in such terrible times. If he does have a problem with it then he's too selfish for you to even waste your time with him. This is your family and where I come from family is everything and family comes first.

Your partner WILL understand, he will get another Christmas, your grandpa might not. If he wants, take him with you and let him stay in a motel nearby or something.

why would you partner not understand? If s/he cares about you then, s/he will understand. Its not like you two wont see each other again right? Your talking about your family. Blood is thicker than water sweety..... go home and be with your family. You will regret it if you dont.
