since I paid for it and down loaded McAfee, my computer runs real SLOW, and stops at times, I found they have a Backup system that keeps running all day long backing up stuff everything and every site you go to.
and the emails, well since I downloaded McAfee. I get at least 50 sexual and other spam type emails each and every day

McAffee (consumer edition) stinks.

Like Norton, someone who developed the product thought that consumers (like you) would want to buy every bell and whistle in the book. In fact, it does work like that.

Sadly, unless you've got a gig of RAM, your computer will run unbearably slow with everything installed.

First of all, you need to dump the McAffee firewall. The Windows firewall works just fine when it's combined with a good AV. I know that some nerds will argue otherwise, but guys, Windows firewall doesn't cause tons of popups and slow down the system, right?

Second, dump the backup unless you've got at least a gig of RAM and a very fast computer.

Third, in fact, I'd dump everything but the core McAffee antivirus software. If you really need spam filtering then get an account with spam filtering (talk to your ISP). If you are running a computer with extreme security concerns then WHY ARE YOU RUNNING MCAFFEE??

My customers run McAffee corporate ed, which handles viruses and crapware. They also have Spybot installed, with also prevents crapware, as well as AdAware, which is great if something would ever get thru (the users deliberately install something).

So far, with the exception of users that deliberately download garbage, they've all been good.

I have had concerns when using McAffee and Norton protection. I was experiencing many troubles which I suspected to be the result of the software programs. I had a technician from a digital cable provider recommend trying "AVG". I am currently using the free AVG protection and I have quality performance. I will say that I use the XP S2 windows based firewall protection. The best thing is AVG is free and safe. Good luck
