When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it.

Well, I've been here almost as long (46 years) and it never ceases to amaze me. But I also see people at the other end of the scale. There are many unselfish, giving people that amaze me, also. I believe it depends on how far advanced a person is on their spiritual journey. I'm an Gnostic Christian, and I believe we're all here to learn for God. Each time we incarnate here, we learn and advance spiritually. Some are further along than others. I'm not trying to push my beliefs on you or anyone, everyone believes what they will. These are just my thoughts on the subject. I also believe that there are 'dark souls' that turn from God. These types never understand the meaning of God's love. I know all this is pretty deep, but that's what I feel, and this is how I cope in this crazy negative world.

This is 45 years of being on this planet ... And boy do I agree with the diminishing of compassion, loyalty and respect....Unfortunately
with the world as it is today a fast food mentality I like to call it, we have lost the high standards that this country once had...

I believe it has allot to do with media tv, radio ,music and our educational systems not to mention the filtering down of poor leadership (governmental, parental etc.) When you have people in leadership with a lack of character the behaviors are then learned and handed down through generations good or bad.

I think our children are being robbed of the hope that we grew up with..Things were definitely more simple and cost effective..You could be a stay at home mom without much sacrifice, but now you have to have 2 good incomes to even think about having any part of the American dream! I know first hand because my family lives on 1 income and we have sacrificed much and can't even come close to the dream. I have 5 children.

Face it who knew the cost of living and the expense of food, clothing and shelter would be the way that it is now? Especially in California and some of the other larger cities and states..Nobody even thought of paying over $3 for a gallon of milk or $500,000.00 for a cracker box of a home?

Our kids have been taught tolerance in areas where there
shouldn't be any and desensitized to the point that they lack understanding and compassion for others...Peer pressure is a big problem bigger then when we were kids... When the governments takes over and takes parental rights away our children suffer the consequences... They allow children to divorce parents and give them ideas that corporal punishment (spanking, etc.)is abuse loud verbal reprimand is even considered abuse now .

Drugs are easier to get and you can find them anywhere and they are free until you get hooked and then they do whatever it takes to get them after the fact!

Too much pressure, sexualising things and lack of respect is taking over and it will come back to bite us harder..Who can you trust anymore really? Allot of marriages are poor examples of reality and commitment ..Selfishness comes when you lose faith, purpose and selfless vision....

All we can do as parents is plant good seed and hope that after they test it they remember what we taught them to be true and then live life selflessly .

Ask yourself this: What is the true meaning of the American dream and what is it supposed to look like in the 21 century?

Do you first believe that there's a God in life? To me Jesus Christ is yet another testomony of the life of an excellent being that creates mankind. no matter if you discover him self-dependent or egotistical, that is immaterial. First do you do not forget that there is an excellent being that creates us all. If certain, do you think we stay in a existence filled will imperfections, if certain then you truly will hit upon a fashion to fulfill that imperfection. in case you imagine there is not some thing incorrect with mankind or you, then proceed including your existence because this is going to likely be immaterial that you'll pursue those questions.

I've been in this world a bit longer than you, and I too, am still wondering what's happened to our society's traditional values, morals, patriotism, tolerance, love and religion.

I do believe there are negative contributing factors, like Movies, TV, Music, Magazines, Books, Newspapers,etc....all the media affect young impressionable minds to act a certain way, what to think, what to wear, or not wear, even what to eat. Also, when there's no Mom and Dad in the home to guide kids, and be good role models, our society suffers. In many two-parent homes, both work, but both don't really need to; they believe they need the best house, car, clothes, etc. Besides the media and the lack of parents, we have lost our most important value; our faith. We need faith to sustain and strengthen us, by giving us good moral values. Now, 'Living together', unwed mothers, crime and drugs have left us with a 'Me-Me" generation.

Without empathy, compassion, tolererance, no remorse(conscience?), no religion, or anything else, other than 'me,me', we are left with only one sad conclusion:
A Polarized society.....and I'm sure you know, "United we Stand; Divided we Fall."
God help us! God bless you for asking this question.

I have given this a lot of thought and I cannot believe that anyone could ask a question that is not directed completely to me. I am incredible and beautiful and smart and I am sure that I have the answer to this question somewhere but I will be preening all day and have to get back to you.

Perhaps you dont know the right people. I have wonderful friends and family, and when one of us needs help, they are all there. I think it is also a case of your attitude towards other people. When you expect help, you wont get it, but when you least expect it, you will. Just a thought.

survival of the fittest.

it is not just in our culture, it is natural.

the strong will survive and the weak will either have to learn to be strong or deal with it.

in the wild you don't see tigers catch themselves a meal and then try to share with the hyenas, every animal has to learn to either fend for themselves or die, and thats just how the world works and has worked from the beginning.

Welcome to the Mac world (McDonalds) We live in a world where family value and morals have long disappeared. Corporations control everything and have caused us to become the way we are. We are all chasing the dollar and only care about us and our interests. Even the religious leaders have gone that way. (Joel Osteen, Billy Graham)

I think we encourage it by our culture. Everything is about comfort and looking out for number One.

And...

It's difficult to be self-centered and egotistical about someone else :)
