If you're talking about People's Park, a few rowdy students like 40 years ago rioted with some hippies to take a piece of University turf.

If you ask a Berkeley student today, chances are they will tell you they'd like to see People's Park become People's Parking Lot. The park is messy, smelly and harbors bums. Students (including me, back in the day) don't feel safe walking by, esp. at night.

But the stupid, dirty hippies won't come into the 21st Century. They still think it's 1968, and communism still sounds like a good idea to them. They like the dirty park and its syring-littered bathroom.

But someday, they too shall die off. Then maybe the University will get around to building a dorm on the land.
