Hello! I am a fellow, and a young one.
I would like ANY advice on dress shirts -- brands, style, etc etc. My price range is 60 up to 100 if it's really sweet, but I certainly can not afford...purple label stuff, for instance.
I have a Diesel shirt that I really like the look of. I have a lot of Penguin shirts, but have never purchased any of their dress shirts (has anyone had any experience with their dress shirts?)
Much thanks for any help!

I really like the high collars on the shirts from expressfashion -- but I'm in Canada! and they don't allow ordering from their website.

Brands- whatever you can afford. In a dress shirt, the name isn't plastered across the front or back, so no one is going to know which label you are wearing. It's more important to have a good cut and fabric than the popular brand.
Collar- look for point for thinner ties, spread for wider ties, and a banded collar when you don't want to wear a tie. Avoid button down or tab collars which are both strictly for a professional business look.
Cuff-Stick with a basic barrel cuff, don't try to be cute with French cuffs, which require cuff links, and are much too formal for anything other than a prom at your age.
Fabric- Cotton, cotton blends (oxford and poplin), linen (for summer) microsuede (for winter). 100% silk feels wonderful, but wrinkles very easily. 100% synthetics look cheap, keep polyester, nylon, and rayon in low percentage blends. Look for shirts that are wrinkle-free. Shiny fabrics for evenings, matte for daytime.
Sleeve length is up to you, but I think that long sleeve dress shirts look nicer than short sleeve.
Cut- If you aren't happy with your torso, get a traditional fit shirt that is a bit more loose. If you like your body, then get a fitted shirt.
Since you are young, try fashion colors instead of plain white or ivory. Blacks, blues, reds, purples, etc... are a very modern look, and very flattering.

Hmmmm so I'm assuming you don't want button down collared shirts, but if you do, Old Navy has good standard colors and the quality isn't so bad. The Gap, Macy's, Lands End cataglog, Eddie Bauer, and even places like TJ Maxx have a great selection of shirts for every manly build.

Paul Frederick I think has great Shirts. Reasonable in price and last for a long time, even after sending to the dry cleaner after each wear and having them use heavy starch.

I don't spend $60 on shirts. I like Van Huesen, usually run $30-$40, and they're good shirts.

Ones that fit properly and don't show your nipples. Higher price equals higher quality and longer lasting. I try to avoid white dress shirts because they just don't last very long.
