when u take a cobra or a nova to a track and they can push 12s, can u take out for a ride agian..no..i now MANY so-called ricers that can pull off 12s and some 11s and still drive away...american cars are too heavey and what not and are gas eaters (thats why there cuttin HEMI production in half) import cars are cheaper lighter and can accomplany as much horsepower as a muscle car can with that right modifcations

As far as I know there is no such thing as a superior car. When I look at a car, I see it in its full pontetial. Remember any car has pontential, no matter what. Check out www.turbominivan.com and you will see what I am talking about. Amazing what a cast iron 2.2 turbocharged Diamon Star motor can do...huh? So remember "No Tune, No Life"

Why do people with imports "think" their 4 cylinder can beat up our American V8s? O grow up. Both have their pros and cons.
All a matter of opinion. I've got my V8 that can push its weight around (it's a truck, come on, its not that fast), yank a load around for me, hit the car show, then still spin around and nicely tear the highways up giving me 24 mpg. It's versatile because I made it that way.
Why modify a truck? Because I can, and I like it.
Why modify an American muscle car? Because they can, and they like it. And as a matter of fact, I know too many blistering fast novas, camaros, chevelles, mustangs, etc etc etc that turn around after the races and drive home.
Why modify an import? Well, like stated, because they can, and they are cheaper.
I drive a 2001 Silverado and a 1999 Prizm, and I will any day take the truck over the car. HOWEVER, the car does get 35 mpg (that's why I have it), and is very cheap and easy to modify (no it's not stock either). The car has a Toyota engine and is reliable, but will never be in the same league as even my truck, whom will easily smack the car back down into place. lol
This is all opinionated, and it annoys me that people obviously have nothing better to do than argue amercian vs import when that is not even an important issue.

Sorry to bust your bubble boys but the following are FACTS and are NOT in dipute- 1. REAL A/C COBRA'S are bringing over HALF A MILLION DOLLARS at auction (please show me the RICER that ever INCREASES that much) 2. If you and I both break down in "RESUME SPEED" Iowa , while the boys at the co-op fix my 347 mustang with off the shelf parts you and your "TURBO" whatever will sit there til parts arrive from the coast . 3. My 12.3 second daily driver 1988 mustang with 347 and NO POWER ADDERS weighs 3170# vs. 3211# for the 2006 WRX sti ,HMMM so much for lighter. 4. my car cost less than $6000.00 dollars to complete and I did none of the work, so much for cheaper- Do I hate ricers, NO WAY thats what hot rodding is all about- Do I think I can beat every RICER , HECK NO! THERE is a GIRL with a 750hp RALLY WRX that SPANKS me regularly- but I am ALWAys gonna talk SMACK! because this too is a HUGE PART OF HOT RODDING!lol

Part of the reason people work on older american muscle cars is because there is a lot more freedom to add/remove/modify parts. For example, there are things you can do to an engine with a carbeurator that are nearly impossible to do with something that has computer-controlled fuel injection. The more simplified engine and drivetrain make them more workable.

And you can drive american muscle cars around, my brother has a 71 Dart which runs low 13s that he still drives around during the summer.

Cars can't think... and normal people know that! (sarcasm)
It all comes down to the car, not the model in general.
There was a Dodge Charger in my city a few years back that could push 11s 1/4 mile. That's effin nuts...
I do see your argument though, lighter more agile cars make for better racing in drift competitions. Since there is acceleration and deceleration involved. Running cars in a straight line i would bet on the one with more HP. Just my thoughts.

it truly is a good question! I really have a 1990 Mustang i'd classify it as American Muscle yet no longer classic American Muscle. everybody have anymore files in this? i opt to carry close too haha.

Partly because there's a lengthy tradition with American muscle cars...going back to well before you were born I am sure - like late 60s/early 70s and well before that even. We like tradition. Not to mention, these cars just looks so much better and more intimidating than those foreign deals. And years ago, when with my ex, I used to go to the drag races with him and his brother in law who used to race an old '67 or '68 goat (GTO in case you aren't familiar with the term) and he ran 10s and 11s with that.

Because they were built when the tradition of driving was "the drive". Their legacy still is that they are the best experience with enthusiasts. But look into the Buick Grand National... It's an interesting hybrid that'll peak your interest. I had one for about 5 years before it got stolen, and they're something else!!
