1993 Mk 3 Astra 1.6 is an 8 valve engine. Look under the bonnet the top of the engine is long and quite narrow. The 16 valve engines have wide flat tops with a long aluminium cover in the middle over the spark plugs.

K reg astra has 8 valves if you mean the ones that let the mixture in and out. Or do you mean all the valves ?

Standard 4 pot engine with one exhaust and one inlet valve in each pot so 8 valves in total.
Still a fun engine i have had one in the past.
The only k reg astra's which had 16v engines were the 1.8 engines they had two inlet nad two exhaust engines per pot
