I was first made aware of this concept from the TV series Star-Trek, the next generation. In the episode, some people from our time were found frozen. They were then thawed-out. They were then told that they were essentially living 500 years past there own time. What was interesting is how(some of them) they struggled to grasp the concept of the monetary system being a thing of the past, just like them. I beleive this, (abandoning the concept of money) will ultimately be man's future. If we are ever to reach our true potential.

This may never happen. People are people; they aren't completely good or completely evil; they are not selfless of selfish. They are a combination of everything.
We want all these comodities and goods; money provides power, recognition, and a way to survive (food, shelter, etc). Without money, we would have no incentive to work. Who would grow our food, run the stores, make our clothes, build our houses, etc. etc.
The only thing I see wrong is that some people seem to devote their life to money and all that it can acquire. They become greedy and lose the essence of living.

Frozen people don't need money. Money is not needed if you would be contented with life as lived before money was thought of. Barter only works in very primitive times and places. It is absolutely impossible now.
