As a former high school football player who dated a cheerleader, I would have to say it is not as much about what activity they are involved in, but the confidence level. Playing football or doing anything in front of a crowd gives a person a certain level of confidence that makes them more popular. People want to be like people who are successful and confident. If you feel like you are an outcast, join something. It doesn't have to be football or cheerleading, just something that is fun for you.

The cheerleaders are there to give the men something to look at between plays. The players are there to give the women something to look at so they don't have to look at the cheerleaders. B.
