It's A Wonderful Life; Madame X (an oldie but a goodie); Casablanca (another oldie but awesome); Breakfast At Tiffanys (not all sad but a tearjerker as well); Love Story; Dead Man Walking; Flight 93 (I think is the name....about flight during 9/11 that crashed in PA...didn't see it but heard was very sad too)

"Sommersby" with Richard Gere and Jodie Foster (so sad I can't bring myself to watch it again)
"Life as a House" with Kevin Kline (some comedy and a sad ending)
"The Story of Us" with Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer ( if it's a broken relationship you are crying over, this is the movie to see)
"The Man in the Moon" with a young Reese Witherspoon (romantic and very sad- love this movie)
"Terms of Endearment" with Shirley McClaine and Debra Winger (LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie-funny, dramatic, and extremely sad)

I'd say Forrest Gump,
It' dramatic, has funny moments, very sad moments, and provokes a good deal of thought
