I had a remote car started installed on my 97 Ford Taurus. After the car is started up and I go to get in it there's still snow and ice on the windows and the air blowing inside is cold. I have to drive the car for awhile before it warms up. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this might be? I've been told it might be anti-freeze or a thermostat. I took it back to the shop that installed the remote and they said that there's nothing wrong on their part.

Your thermostat is sticking open

You thermostat could be stuck open. But if your car eventually warms up, that might not be the problem.

How long do you let your car idel before you get into it? Also, do you remember to put your HVAC into recirc mode before you exit the car. The interior will heat up much faster that way.

Also, if you have more than a quarter inch of snow on your car or an eighth inch of ice, it's going to take about 15 minutes to clear the ice and/or snow off completely. If you're expecting your car to be completely clear using your auto starter, you're wasting time and money. Let the car run for 5 minutes, and spend 5 minutes with the scraper.

In the meantime, get your cooling system tested by local certified mechanic. If you haven't had your Taurus flushed and filled in the last 2 years, you're looking at what could be the main contributer to your problem.

Bottom line: Have your cooling system checked, making sure to have a flush and fill done and determine if your thermostat is functioning. Depend more on your elbow grease to remove snow and allow the engine and Recirc mode to heat the interior of your car.

I know this might sound silly, but you do put the heat on the hottest setting and the vent selector on defrost and fan on high?

The amount of time it idles before you take off should be around 30 minutes or so. That should do the trick even with a remote starter, I'm sure thats why you had it installed in the first place.

All vehicles function top around 195 levels yet on a -40 degree day maximum smaller engines have hardship attaining working temps with out radiator blankets.
