I have been on this site for about ten months.I used to really enjoy debating topics and having intelligent comments tossed around.I liked to ask for help or suggestions from you and appreciated the answers.Lately, though,I have become a bit jaded by all the name calling and venom being spewed by Republicans and Democreats alike.I admit I have done this myself in small doses. Why is it necessary to turn on a fellow American just because we differ in our thoughts and beliefs? No one wants war.No one wants poverty. Can we stop bashing each other and maybe start asking intelligent and thought provoking questions that may actually have merit instead of using this as a forum to hate?Or am I overestimating the power of conscious reason?

I'm right there with you on this one. Although I think unfortunately, there are too many people on here who either can't have an intelligent debate or won't because they are afraid that what they have to say has no merit or worth. I hate the fact that its always democrat vs. republican, liberal vs. conservative. I would hope people would realize that we are all in this together and it is us, not the government who is deciding what direction this country is headed. We need to quit the bickering and start having intelligent debate and discussions so as to find ways to better ourselves as individuals and as a whole. Thanks and have a nice day.

While I understand your ideal and have voiced some of the same similar thoughts , you might not ever get your wish.
In a free society everyone has the right to voice an opinion. At times free speech does not guarantee intelligent thought or research.
No one wants war is one strong point. While some believe that talking to your enemy until Domesday will accomplish peace. Other see it differently. So stems the argument as both see their side correct.
No one wants poverty is another strong point with many people. While some believe that hard work will raise people to a better life. Others see the need for tax payer funded programs to help the poor. While both sides have merit, going total one sided may be some of the problem. The poor need help to obtain a better life , the help needs to be better structured to meet the goal.
I don't believe you are overestimating conscious reasoning but you are underestimating the passion some people feel for various issues. If the bashing is too bad at some forums I ignore the question and go to another. Those questions aren't really after logical answers as much as "getting a reaction".

Actually, I've asked several questions like that myself, and by the looks of the results, Y!A won't change. Most people are smart enough to know that not all Democrats are the same, ditto with the Republicans. These posts are to spark conversation; don't you think it'd be kinda bland if this place was like a meet the press.com sorta discussion board?
