Of course, I haven't met most Northern black people but I live in Philadelphia and have lived in AL (born and raised), GA and Boston and I travel extensively. I have worked in factories, retail and food service.

I also went to an HBCU and a TWI, so I would say I've met a pretty good cross-section of African Americans from different areas of the country and from different backgrounds.

According to the book, Basic Black: Home training is the process of being raised right. It's doing such things as respecting your elders, being a responsible citizen to your community.

Home training is also "courtesy and consideration with a healthy dash of common sense thrown in. It's behaving toward others as you'd like for them to behave toward you."

Home Training isn't a task relegated to an individual's family. It's a community effort.

It's reflective of the culture around them. My mother, who is as white as they come, says the same thing about white Northerners, although it's not always the case. But from what I've seen, most black people raised by parents who are originally from the South do have better manners as a whole. The issue seems more regional than racial, really.

Excuse me Ms. Sweet & Lo! I a black woman from New Jersey born and raised. However, I've also lived in Virginia for 3 years and Texas for almost 7 and Trust me, Southerners may have a few manners and some home training but it's not all about the South Ms. Thing! The only reason why you all are different from us is because you have nothing else to do with your time except eat, sleep, watch tv, work, sit on the porch, run in the woods hunting, go to the convienient stores and purchase alcohol. Oh and let's not forget the highlight of your day is to shop at WalMart! I'm right next door to New York and we as Northerners or at least True Northeners have shopping in the Village and the Garment District where if you purchase anything, you definitely won't see your twin walking down the streets. Yes Bright Lights, A real Christmas with Snow, Rockefella Center, 4 Season not 2! And a lot of us are raised by parents from the South so therefore we have just as much training as you Southeners do! Please don't get it twisted Ms. Thing, we're all on this planet together and we all need to get along with each other no matter what geographical area that we're be raised and growing up in. So since I've written all of those somewhat nasty things about the you all in the South, let me be the first to have manners and apologize for the way I wrote it! You see I've learned something about the North and the South. A Northerner can survive anywhere including the South but I've heard a lot of Southeners state that they could never survive up in the North. Now before there is another war between the South and the North, which I'm so sure if you've read your history what the outcome of that last war was, why can't we all just get along?

How can you talk when you haven't met a lot of black people in the north. If anything the people in the south are loud-mouths.Half of my family is in Alabama and they are more louder than I am used to.Black people in the north are very quiet, calm, and respectful people. And If you think we have no home training because our parents didn't "discipline" us(If you know what I mean),that works all around the world.

Plenty of northern black people have home-training, and plenty of southerners don't. Home-training and proper manners are the product of a person's individual family, not some regional factor. You need to get out and meet a greater diversity of people.

Who are you to accuse "most Northern black people" of anything? Most of the "Northern black people" I've met have been very properly house broken. Sure they might have an accident here or there but for the most part they're pretty good! ;)

Most northern minorities still think they are victims and the liberal society keeps them that way. I wish minorities would realize that democrats hurt us way more than the republicans.

I know what you mean, Southern black mamma's beat their kids @sses more often. So do Southern white mommas, Lord knows my momma beat my @ss enough. It's called manners even if their kids turned out to be hoodlums at least they tried.
