Books: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card; Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell; Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2, Shrek 1 & 2, Everafter, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge, and most musicals.
Favorites are favorites because they have "again again" appeal. I enjoy reading and watching many things. But it is the books/movies that I can go back to time and time again and still enjoy that become true favorites. If a book or movie starts losing appeal the second or third time around...it just doesn't have what it ultimately takes.

Books: The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky thoroughly enjoyable as well as thought-provoking
To Kill a Mockingbird -- thoroughly enjoyable; Atticus Finch is a true hero
The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek -- this was written when socialism was more openly and widely admired and accepted than now; the book is a warning about the nature of socialism and the danger it poses for human liberty and prosperity. These issues are still relevant, but the battle is disguised. Ignorance of economics is very dangerous.
The Now Habit by Fiore -- great help for someone with serious procrastination issues
Never Get a Tattoo by Richard Carson -- entertaining but very insightful quick read about increasing one's enjoyment of life
Masterwork by Arnauld Maitland -- terrific treatment of work--how to enjoy it, be effective and succeed--from a Buddhist foundation
The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton -- an autobiography of a great spiritual man modern America
The Long Loneliness -- About Dorothy Day, the fascinating and challenging pacifist Catholic convert
The gospels with a good commentary -- this takes some commitment, but it pays off
Peace Is Every Step and The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh -- wonderful manuals on Vietnamese Buddhism
How to Make Money In Stocks by William O'Niell -- self-explanatory
The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by JRR Tolkien -- brilliantly created new world and adventure story; absorbing
Movie: The Year of Living Dangerously -- I think this was Mel Gibson's first real hit. Indonesia during Viet Nam era, Gibson is an Australian journalist who has an affair with Sigourney Weaver. Linda Hunt plays a man - terrific performance, earned an Oscar. War story, love story, exotic land--I was completely absorbed in it.
The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes -- laugh out loud bad movie
Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail -- side-splitting laughs

The BelGariad series (5 books) by David Eddings.
The story is an epic fantasy but the character development is excellent and the writing style full of excitement. By the end you really feel like you know these people personally and you miss them when your finished.
