Yeah, they're atrocious. Like someone said, at one time the staff knew what they were talking about, but poor pay & conditions meant the good ones soon left. Now it's a "flog it quick and get rid of the customer" environment. Sometimes I go in there just to while away some time and listen to the utter bo**ocks the staff give to customers.

I've heard the "blame the manufacturer" try-on too. Unfortunately for them, the customer said "That's interesting. I'm a solicitor. Have you heard of the Sale of Goods Act?" Result? One hastily summoned manager, one immediately replaced lap-top. And an armful of goodies to go with it.

Glad you got a result but it took a long time, as our legal system does. Good Old PC World. I have lost track of the articles about Bad Customer Service. BUT, you could have saved yourself a lot of time, stress and worry if only you had checked up on your consumer rights. I wont bore everyone with the list but The sale of goods act enforces that anything sold MUST be free of defects, and suited to its purpose. PC World ( and a lot of other retailers) seem to think they are not liable and that your complaint is with the manufacturer of the Laptop.

Absolute nonsense. Your contract of sale was with PC World NOT Acer and it was their DUTY, under the SALE OF GOODS ACT, to resolve your problem. Just for info, this protection can extend way beyond the so called 1 years warrany. So people, know your rights and dont take any nonsense from any Company trying to give you the runaround.

I will step off my soapbox now.

No they are not the most helpful, I wanted to buy a laptop and MS Office from them a while back. I asked for a price for Laptop and MS Office and was told that the machine does not come with MS Office, I again asked for there price on Laptop and MS Office, I just wanted to know a total, this went on for about 10 Mins they could not get the concept that I wanted to buy the two items, so I went elsewhere and got what I needed there loss. The times I have been there unhelpful to say the least. I work as Customer Services Manager, and my staff would never dream of treating our customers like that!

I used to work for PC World but will avoid using it now. When I went there as a business advisor all the staff were expected to have above above average knowledge of computers, but not any more. Last time I went in there I spent five minutes explaining what I wanted before it became obvious the advisor didn't have a clue what I was talking about.
As for their customer services, it was always bad, but it seems to have got worse with staff being told that customers should refer faulty goods back to the manafacturer - Under the sale of goods act it is the retailer who is reponsible.
You can't blame the staff however, its their training which seems to have gone down the pan.

They were slated in this weeks WebUser mag for their repair service. Apparently hey were given several pc's with simple problems to fix and didn't even diagnose the faults correctly in most cases.
