that is not excessive mileage for a oil change in today's engines. the oil and filters used and the engine technology make extended oil change intervals OK

Actually, that's not going to cause a problem, so long as she gets an oil change right away. The three-thousand-mile recommendation applies to vehicles that are driven in city traffic, with a lot of stop-and-go operation. Stop and go refers to driving only short distances before the vehicle is parked and shut off. That's much harder on the engine than steady highway-speed driving, and that's the reason for the three-thousand-mile recommendation for oil changes. Five thousand miles is okay now and then, but mostly, one should stick to the factory recommendation. Just make sure she uses a high-grade oil and has her mechanic change the filters - air filter and oil filter both - every time she has it serviced.

Being that it sits plenty with out being pushed, you need to replace the oil a minimum of once a 12 months, if no longer two times a 12 months. The oil will damage down by the years and the substances may evaporate out of the oil. at the same time as oil receives previous, it turns to a greasy sludge, and that isn't any longer good on your motor. even even with the truth that you do not rigidity the vehicle typically, it really is probable a good theory to a minimum of commence the engine once each and every 2-4 weeks and rigidity it some miles to get it as a lot as temperature and bypass the oil and fluids in the approach the engine and rigidity prepare. Seals can dry out with out delay in the journey that they don't look to be kept lubricated. it may sound humorous, even with the undeniable fact that the worst situation you need to do to a vehicle isn't rigidity it.

none. Most newer cars recommend between 5000 miles and 7500 miles for oil changes. Dont worry about it and dont go by the 3000 mile interval unless you are doing extremely hard driving. Normal highway and long distance driving is fine at 5500 miles.

It will be fine. When I was a teenager, I had a 1991 Civic that I waited 7500 miles to change the oil (more than one time because i was irresponsible) and it ended up with 250,000 on the engine.

Just make sure she changes it a bit more frequently going forward and you shouldnt have any problems.

I'm surprised that the car is still running. Due to the model and make of the car, it is possible to reverse some of the damage that has already been done to it, but I would suggest that the oil changes be more frequent and that you take all of the normal precautions in order to ensure that your car won't need an overhaul after 5 years.

You would do better to encourage her to adhere to the manufacturers recommendations. Modern lubricants have improved dramatically over engine oils from 20-30 years ago. In fact, many of todays high-end vehicles (Mercedes, BMW, etc.)utilize synthetic lubricants (i.e. Mobile One) and have recommended oil changes that range from 13,000-to-15,000 mile intervals.

I thnk you'll be hard pressed to find an expert that will associate "lost miles" with this minor transgression.

Most manufacturers recommend an oil change every 7500 miles. It is the people who benefit (mechanics and oil change shops) who recommend an oil change every 3000 miles. They only do that so you will come in and buy their product more often.

5500 miles is childs play..... and nothing to worry about. Now..... if this 5500 miles was more then 6 or more months..... nothing too bad... but more then likely the oil had picked up a little fuel and water.. but thats nothing serious or engine life threatening....
