AMEN!!!
As far as our history, let's not forget the Irish, Italians, Germans, Jews and other "whites" that were oppressed. Let's also not forget hate groups such as the Black Panthers.

You are correct. It is a double standard. Many people will claim that "every day is white history day",but that just isn't so anymore. Once upon a time every race but whites were looked down upon. In no other time in history is this more untrue than right now. In my opinion every other culture is now being embraced more readily than Anglo culture. It's acceptable to have Black universities, but not white ones. Until those other cultures realize that segregating themselves only keeps things unbalanced instead of becoming equal as they should be, well this debate will move full steam ahead. I just don't get how keeping races apart empowers anyone. We should all just be human, on the same playing field as everyone else.

I 100% agree. There was a girl in N.CA (i think) that tried to start a club after school for an anglo-saxon pride thing. The school has both a Black student body association, and a Latino Student Body association. Everyone told this girl it was an outrage and racist. I don't get it!!
I've heard the argument that the "minorities" have to have these organizations and such because they are not represented enough and whites do not have to because they run most things anyway.
Ever try to get scholarships as a white student...its impossible!!! I don't know, maybe it is just me, but if I'm accepted into a school, or rewarded for an outstanding achievement, don't you want that based soley on your skill and intelligents vs. your race.
If race should not be an issue and everything should be equal, why include race on applications, or make a point of pointing out you are the 1st black to do this or that.
Ok, I'm done, could go on forever.

I've wondered the same thing. But, you know, maybe we should try having German history month, or English Entertainment Television, or Scottish Miss America? Maybe African-American History Month would be more appropriate.............then the next month have European-American History Month? Culture and Heritage is where our history traces back into ancestry and where they came from..............it's not all in black and white. And we have all come to the USA by one means or another.......except the American Indian. Hmmm............is there an American Indian History Month? I think pride in culture & heritage is permitted..............it's distinguishing between colors and having unfair preconcieved notions about those different colors that gives opening for racism. I wish we could all just realize and acknowledge that we are all individuals of value who have great contributions to make in this wonderful world of diversity. :)

Although I understand to a certain extent, you should type in "white pride" into your search engine and see what the world wide web has to say about these two words--why is that? I am not saying that all caucasians or whites subscribe to these views, but there has been enough history surrounding these words that bring images and memories that don't just speak of racial preservation as some contend, but the extermination of all else that is not the same. When this country was founded, the criteria for being 'American' did not include it's inhabitants of color--therefore the need to distinguish 'white pride' was most redundant--it would take several centuries before the term 'American' would come to encompass all of it's peoples and not just those in positions of power and influence. Now, in the 21st century, we have the opportunity to repair the breaches in our country and our honor--would there be a need for racial distinction had race NEVER been an issue in America? Most of these 'black' institutions either have strong percentages of whites in their employ or are even owned by whites--maybe these distinctions were necessary to find an avenue for talent that would otherwise be subjected to the machine of racism that turns to this day...
Hopefully by the turn of the next century we will get it right...

How about a Scotch-Irish Entertainment Channel? You see...no one would object to that. A Celtic Channel? Fine. I'm white. But I don't share the cultural point of view you mean by white. If you ran a white channel, I wouldn't watch, even though I'm white, because I wouldn't be able to relate to it. If you called it the Cracker Channel, the Confederate Channel, even the KKK Channel, then it would make sense. At least it would be clear you wouldn't be pretending to represent white people altogether, but rather the one narrow point of view that you do. But you can't misappropriate the word :White" for your one, narrow-minded idea of white. It's offensive to all the white people who don't share your sensibilities. For instance, white history doesn't make sense, because until recently, almost all the history we ever learned about was all white anyway. So, what's the need for a special white history? So, what's really your problem? Your problem is just this: you are sad and confused as to why black slavery had to end, and then Jim Crow had to end, and you are upset that blacks don't shuffle off the sidewalks, and hold their hats in their hands and bow their heads when you pass by, like they did for your grandpappy. I can understand that, but hey, buddy, it's time to get a grip and face reality. Get a life in the real world today, and put away your butternut uniform already. It's over, the USA won the war, and the Confederacy lost. Really.

wow, I am putting my neck way out there on this one, but I can't believe someone is finally saying something I have always said. it is ridiculous, the blacks,Hispanics, whatever, walk around with Black Pride shirts or 100% Puerto Rican, etc.. if a white person says something along those lines we are almost always called racist. I am by no means a racist person, I am married to a Cuban-born man. I have friends of all nationalities, but I have always seen a HUGE double standard when it comes to the things you've mentioned.
you know I keep reading about how the "whites" did all these horrible things to the other races... that was so long ago.. when the Irish came over here they were treated like dirt.. their dead bodies were thrown together on a limestone beach and left to rot.. (watch the movie The Gangs of New York), the Native Americans were slaughtered, The Jewish were put into camps.. I am part Irish, part native American, part English and part German. The English were the ones who did the awful things to the Irish and the Native Americans, the Germans were horribly cruel to the Jewish people.. should I then hate myself now ?? Half of me was persecuted and the other half were the persecutors... I think leave the past where it belongs...

That's hilarious because when I open my eyes and look around this place, you do have white entertainment television, miss white America, white history month, etc., there just isn't any declaration that it is, in fact, a white thing because it is quite obvious and no explanation is ever necessary. Trust me, many believe in the idea of racial harmony, but time and time again that bass ackwards thinking you've presented and the establishments put in place to disenfranchise others for cenuries make that impossible. That club of Caucasian exclusivity has made branching off into racial enclaves NECESSARY. That culture of entitlement runs deep, hence your rant.
You are trying to assert, with what you've listed, that there is no equal opportunity for whites, so you call it reverse racism. You know damn well you don't believe that. What I think you are getting at is why can't whites go around calling themselves 'white'. No one ever said that there is anything wrong with that and I know that I never really hear Caucasians go around using that term because most of them would rather use their specific ethnic backgrounds such as Irish, German, French, etc., whereas the mass majority of blacks in America don't have that luxury, so we are universally known as blacks or African Americans.
So please stop acting as if your rights as a human being are being impeded. I'm sure that when you refer to yourself, you identify with where your ancestors came from and you realize that the term 'white' is not valid enough. That must feel nice.

I totally agree with you and I do not think that you are being a "jackass" as one un-openminded person called you. You know, slavery was years ago......get over yourselves. It was'nt us that put them through that. I don't think anything is fair about what they went through back then, but **** man, leave it alone already!!! Your right about one thing, if we tried to have a white Miss America, the **** would hit the fan! And why don't we....because some people these days see no point in grudges, or "getting back" at someone. Who is doing the seperating now? Oh wait, I know who it is NOT....the WHITES!!! Happy Holidays to everyone of every culture and RACE.

i think it's great we have diversity in channels now. It's a learning tool is the way i look at it, to see different cultures celebrating their heritage on television. The world is full of hate, let's all learn from other cultures and open our minds up a bit geez.
I agree if the whites in school want to have their group let them as long as they're not hurting anyone else what is the problem.
Come on people, we should be way past this black and white thing. Stop being so angry. that goes for everyone! You're going to end up hurting yourself or someone and end up in jail where all different races and cultures will pass your butt around and turn you into their nanny boy or girl. so get over it and love.

I understand. Either white or black, red or yellow to be rather narrow on colour choices should be able to be proud fo who they are. I'd just like to see it broadened beyond colour and gender and focus on just being Human. Nothing wrong with being white. I'm white..although I prefer Caucasian. I have a background of Irish/Norwegian but I'm 100% American and 100% Human. Good luck.
