where do you start? there are SO many!
first and foremost, that only gay people have AIDS/HIV, and that ALL of us have it.
that we "choose" to be gay
that God hates us
that we are (all) child molesters
that we are into bestiality
that all lesbians use strap-ons
that all gay men are into anal sex
that all lesbians are "butch"
that all gay men are effeminate queens
that homosexuality is somehow "contagious"
that lesbians hate men and gay men hate women
that all we do is think about sex
that we hit on/always are trying to "convert" straight people
that we can't have (biological) children
....I could sit here for a long time and come up with quite a few more examples, I'm sure.
but 99 % of all these misconceptions are just that. they are all generalizing, stereotyping bigoted assumptions. and if people would open up their minds and educate themselves, and actually get to know us, they'd know the truth!

One of the big things I know of is the misconception that bieng a lesbian is becaue a man hurt you. I always hear people say well what happenend to turn you that way..what did he do...but sometimes thats nor the issue its just the way they are and another thing would be that Gays or lesbian cant ever have kids because some of the parents I know are gay and they do an amazing job.....hope this helps out a little....

From what I have seen in the media or on tv shows (I don't know anyone gay in my life at this time) I'd have to say the biggest misconception with gays is that people think that they CHOSE to be gay, that if they really tried or went to counseling that they'd live a straight life style, and that's just not the case.

Most people think gays and lesbians are trying to disrupt their way of beliefs and thinking by pushing their "agenda" and "trying to shove their lifestyle down America's throat". It's real sad because gays and lesbians alike (along with the bisexual and transgendered commmunties) just want equality as first-class citizens - the right to marry who they choose, the right to adopt or foster needy children, the right to include their spouses in their final wishes, etc. This country was becoming very accepting until Sept. 11 - I think when that happened, most people went to their religious temple to pray for relief, and they got sucked in to believing what literal translations of their holy books mean and starting to exclude anybody that's not "like them," including the LGBT community. To me, that's the biggest misconception people have about gays and lesbians today.

Not sure but the biggest misconception the gay/lesbian community has about everyone else is that we really care if they are gay or not.....most of the people I know don't.

Wow.
That's a tough one.
Let's see, that in a relationship one "has" to be the man and one "has" to be the wife.....
That simply because it has a penis a gay man will want to sleep with it.
That all Gay men have anal sex.
That all lesbians use toys.
That homosexual is equal to pedophilia/bestiality.
That "your" religion is the "correct" one and others should have to obey the dictates of that religion regardless whether or not you believe in it.
That there is a "Gay Agenda".
That gays and lesbians "recruit".
The list would go on for quite a while.

well judging by a question that I just read a few moments ago - I guess my misconception was that buying a gift for a lesbian wouldn't be any different than buying a gift for a straight woman. Apparently I was wrong, lol.

this is actual they say our followers do not love the pastime, yet each and every 365 days they popular a minimum of two million+ followers, and yet different "followers" say that we are not actual followers? The Dodgers have the most consistent fan base of all time. more advantageous than the hot york Yankees or the Boston pink Sox. See our followers do not care if the boys in blue win or lose, we only love the game!

That we care about the straight people validating us? Born gay or not, who the $*@& cares? The misconception is that our very personal lives are up for scrutiny.
