In 1985, the Ferrari Testarossa retailed for about $94,000 which would bring it in at just under the £50k mark. I always remember the white one in miami vice, it still looks sh*t hot today. i think magnum had one too

Rover 3.5 coupe, poor man's Rolls Royce. All wood and leather and a fantastic V8 under the bonnet. The Citroen CX estate was an excellent car, 8 seater before any people carrier, fast, extremely comfortable and economic. And if the road was flooded as happened to me, pull the lever, up she goes on the suspension, and we drove through the flood with no problem. Saved me a 10 mile detour that did.

Alfa Romeo 164 3.0 V6 - 200+ bhp with all the trimmings of a luxury car, and they only cost a few hundred quid nowadays.
That said, only the Italians could build a hard top which leaks.

Original Toyota Corolla GT The RWD one not the FWD shopping trolly. Faster and better handling than any other car of its time and inconspicuious enough not to draw attention.
