They really don't care about speaking proper English. You'll probably notice that there are other words that they mispronounce.

Most ppl that say axe instead of ask CAN say it the correct way. It is simple a cultural thing, on the street. SLANG. Every generation has it to some degree. Tho it is not proper english and many despise it... I say allow them to use it, what does it hurt, and if proper English is important to you, learn it and speak it and leave them to their own way ot speakaing. I am more concerned with matters of the heart, and feel this is where we need to go. and to help ppl learn that the more knowledge of God they have, the further they will go in life. Just love them, forgive them, and not let it bother you. Its not a painful thing. And in some I found ususing it on the street is mighty colorful, tho I am not referring to dirty stuff. its just a way of being different and establishing a way they know each other, be it black , white, whatever. I must admit as a 60 yr old gramma,I did learn WASSSSSUP from my kids, and I think its kinda cute. Now, would I use this in business??? Of course not, but amonst friends just being fun, whats the hurt?????

It's a regional accent, I think originally from the South.

For example, people in New England drop their "r's".
Car becomes "Caw"

Some people in New York pronouned toilet as "ter-let".

When I lived in the South, they pronounced buffet as "boo-fay" while most people pronounce it "buff-ay".

PS... I live in the USA and I speak American.
For those that want to speak proper English, consider moving to England. However, you'll be sorely disappointed, even in the UK they have different versions/dialects of English.

I continually imagine of someone taking up a schoolbus with a device gun, or of the school shootings in Beslan. To the traditional American, a terrorist is visualized as an Islamic extremist, yet terrorism is as previous as civilization. If the U.S. did not meddle in international affairs a lot, and did not help Israel as a lot as we do, we does no longer even understand what an "Islamic terrorist" became. it extremely is worry-free sufficient. even with the undeniable fact that, i'm in my view lost on the placement. On one hand, i do not sense that we ought to continually be assisting countries to the quantity that we help Israel, yet ofcourse, they could be wiped out if we did not. even even with the truth that Israel became ilegally elementary after WW2, does that mean it really is present day voters need to be left to die? No. yet we received't, like this administration, faux like we help peace yet then turn the different cheek and help Israel. particularly of announcing, "Yeah, Israel shouldn't exist perchance, yet what can their toddlers do now? you won't be able to kill them. Please, enable's search for a compromise," we are saying, "ok, you and your terrorists won't be able to be negotiated with and Israel will be the following because we reported so. in case you hearth any missiles, your human beings will face sanctions. it really is all." THAT breeds anger and terrorism. And earlier, i became talking about "meddling in international affairs." nicely, as someone who helps upholding humanity, I do trust in assisting Darfur... yet at the same time as extremists commence gunning at us, it truly is going to be like Iraq, in common words on a smaller scale, the position our quite objective may were to unlock human beings (a minimum of it extremely is noble). Ah.

It's just one of those dialect things. They drop the 's' sound just like I usually drop the 'k' sound. When I say it fast, it comes out as "a*s" or "asst". I am not incapable of pronouncing the word the proper way if I need to.
