I think the military is a good opportunity. I spent 4 years in the Navy as a corpsman and received a lot of good training that was transferable to the civilian population. I don't know what all military groups offer but I would consider joining based on who offers jobs in what you intend to pursue This will give you hands on experience while working toward a degree. Of course if you're not sure what you'd like to do try to choose something that you can get something out of it. Don't believe everything the recruiter tells you and don't be afraid to ask questions. You may want a specific training but it may not be available. Many will tell you to go ahead and join and you can pick it up later. That is not always, as a matter of fact rarely true. Go for what you want and get it in writing. Pros - Job security, hands on experience, college assistance, place to live and grow while developing independance, a big plus to have military background when job hunting. Cons - Away from home, money's not great but if that's not your purpose they provide everything for you, really I can't think of too many cons. research all of the military for what you want and what they have to offer toward college, how much time you will have to commit to get those benefits and try to choose a job that you will enjoy. I've known some guys who would join the military and not give a lot of thought to just just because they wanted to get out of the house. They ended up being ground pounders and doing a lot of grunt work.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but, you can go to usajobs.com for federal employment and apply to the national guard as a civilian. Many of their employment opportunities offer the jobs to civilians but then it is a requirement to join the guard also. So, you figure, a job, college opp, and the guard all wrapped into one. Not a bad gig really. Good luck.

This is a very Wrong reason to sign up and you should consider alternate ways of making money or paying for the college.
There are always student loans to rely upon if nothing works out.
I am not against enlisting but in your case enlisting is wrong.
You might be shipped out to fight a war where you can loose your life. Ask yourself is it worth it.
