This foreshadowed one of the great mysteries of North America, Roanoke's so-called "Lost Colony" of 90 men, 17 women and 9 children, founded in 1587 and discovered to be missing in 1590, but for the word "Croatan" carved on a post. Although both the English and the Spanish searched for clues to the colony's disappearance for many years, the mystery has never been solved. I want to know if anyone has any idea what happened to all those people? And do you believe that evil actually had something to do with their disappearances.

Well, one theory I heard was that they were starving to death and the indigenous people took pity on them and incorporated them into their tribe.

One account that supports this theory is that many years later when more settlers arrived, some of the Indians were noted to have blue eyes.

First -- it became into no longer in Roanoke VA, it became into on Roanoke Island close to Manteo, NC The Croatan carved on the tree gave it away. the main achievable thought that I heard turning out to be up in NC became into that the colonists gave up on having all people else take place. They then left the unique internet site and moved inland and have been absorbed into community Indian tribes.

The two best theories have been mentioned. I had a buddy who was stationed in Havelock, NC and he said he went to the Croatan national forest all the time. At the rangers office they had pamphlets about what happened and one said that they had found evidence that they indeed join with a local tribe. There were stories of light-skinned in the later years.

Most likely it was a combination of disease, starvation and indian attacks. I just read a book about the Mayflower written by Nathaniel Philbrick, and found it most interesting.

I think that space aliens got them, or they were caught in a time warp and ended up in the far future.
