That's tough to pick the #1 answer-perhaps the destruction of personal rights, along with the apathy of the people that don't see that-largely because they believe terrorism is their only fear.
I believe globalization itself is a problem mostly because of the way it's applied. It's one thing to have trade with other countries which is balanced and fair. It's completely different to depend on another country for a needed commodity when that country is an insecure resource. This is from an Energy newsletter in 2003:
the best policy for security is to take diversification to extremes rather than classifying oil sources as “secure” and “non-secure”. The Iraqi oil is classified as a “non-secure” source, yet the US is the largest consumer of Iraqi oil.
In other words, we were highly dependent on Iraqi oil-an insecure source. That's bad globalization policy.

Slough and complacency.
I'm going to jump to a possible root and relief with the Draft.
When we had a draft the majority of American men spent a short time in the Army. This was a huge target audience for teaching American values, Patriotism and hard work. The Army is not all bullets and marching. There are in hundreds of classes. Learning Leadership, obedience, loyalty.
I strongly believe the Israeli model of draft would help America. Not just the men but also women should at least go through basic training. Learn the system and have a understanding of Military operations.
We only have 1% of or population in the Armed Forces. That means 99% do not know what the military is all about.

The question can actually go beyond the scope of the USA. Although I see Globalization as a prime enemy to the USA, I believe the real enemy is based on Spiritual Warfare.
The USA has been a place of freedom and for years we have honored that freedom through responsibility. However we have also neglected some of the very foundations that brought us here and out of the Tyranny of England's Monarchy.
In turn as a society, we are becoming what we hated. Call it what you will as for as Radical Left Wing or Right Wing propoganda, but the truth is that neither side is willing to compromise and tolerate the other. This has been brought about through Spiritual Warfare.
Spiritual Warfare is a force that is much deeper than any of us are willing to acknowledge, let alone live with the reality that it is there.
On one hand you have the Christian Community who believes in the One True God and then you have everyone else. That is because Satan is the "Father of Lies" and thus anything other than the Truth comes directly from Satan.
The Christian community is afraid to call it what it is because they to have bought into some portion of Satan's lies. As a result the Christian voice, which our nation was founded on is being killed.
Globalization is a part of that lie and in time, Saddly, our nation will be destroyed. Our freedoms and way of life will be gone.
Can this course we are on be changed? Yes!!! We must get on our knees and Pray, but we must also listen to what God is telling us and then we must rise up and be an influence in our own communities, we must rise to civil service, to be journalists, to be strong business people. We must do our part to influence those around us. We can do this without raising a single weapon in our own nation. We must also stand up against the evils in the world. We must take the fight to our enemy and destroy him before he comes any further into our nation.
We must be brave in going after the evils within this nation. Do not let evil grow, simply out of "Tolerance" It is time to call on Islamic/Muslim leaders in this country to denounce terrorism and to hold them accountable for any transgressions that occur by a terrorist who hides behind the Muslim faith.
It's time to RISE UP!!!

Globalization isn't a problem and it was bound to happen, since all the technical advances are making the world smaller everyday. That's why I feel terrorism is the #1 threat to America and every country in the world. We are not the only nation that has had problems with terrorism, it's a global problem, and needs to be dealt with.
This isn't going to be as nice and pretty to deal with, like the cold war was in retrospect, it's going to be very ugly and sadly deadly. Terrorists aren't the type of people to be negotiated with. They fight a dirty and never wear uniforms, so they can infiltrate into the places they are attacking. Which is another reason they are the biggest threat to not only the US, but the world as a whole.
Edit: Wow two thumbs down for writing what I feel is true. The Liberals on here really know how to show their true colors. I only give thumbs down when the comment turns too much into a bash on the government or is just plain ugliness no matter which side of the fence you are on.

I think the number one enemy of the United States of America is the country's government.
A majority of Americans that I know are good people, a few bad apples like any other country; but the U.S. government is your own worst enemy. Not the people but the bloody government in their quest for greater power using the nations best interest as a plausible reason for their criminal actions.
What fuels the government are the greedy people who support them. They are the top one percent of the Americans, and do not reflect the middle class citizens of the country.
The billionaires of the nation support the politicians financially and expect their support to be rewarded. The government works for the richest of the rich. The common man gets what will keep them satisfied. But only just satisfied, and no more than that.
When the U.S. government starts working for the welfare of every single citizen as if they were as important as the Gates, of the nation then you will have to look to other places for your number one enemy.

I think that is us- ourselves.
We are trying to help people all over the world when they do not need it and we don't have resources to improve our own life.
We are looking for enemies on the other side of the planet instead of guarding our own borders.
We give illegals more right and privileges than we have ourselves.
We don't want to recognize God anymore.
We are hypocrites. You wouldn't see a naked body on your TV but everything is saturated with sex.
We are killing our environment.
Government have more rights regarding our kids than we do.
We constantly abuse social programs, lie on taxes, insurances, leaving to our kids nothing.
Well, You can continue.

Gluttony, conspicuous consumption, obesity, unwarranted pomposity, false esteem based on erroneous beliefs of American superiority. "This may not be a perfect system but it sure beats what's second best." That's total bullsit.
Any country that spends it peoples treasury on atomic bombs, unwarranted War, missions to the moon, and not first on its failing and deteriorating infrastructure, paying down the national debt, the health of its most important assert, its people, educating it youth, and care and respect to its elderly and infirm does not deserve the designation of a civilized nation. It then is doomed to drive itself right into the third world.

A complacent, uninformed, and detached electorate. And of course, all the political strategists that pull their strings.
Short sighted foreign policies are a close second.
American myopia is right up there too.

Arrogant leaders.
But you're right, globalization and trade issues have to be worked out. Unrestrained capitalism is not the self regulating bestower of prosperity on all, trickle down does work and the sooner the US citizenry realizes this, the better. Personally, I'm not comfortable buying clothes and shoes made in sweatshops, and eating fruit picked by laborers who are little more than indentured servants.

Like it or not it is already here. The US sold out several years ago.
Corporate giants have been running the world and it has grown to the point that it can't be hidden from society any longer. Why do you think Osama Bin Laden went after the world trade towers. If that wasn't a statement I don't know what else is. Its more like the terrorists are fighting globilization.
