Not everyone does, however. You ask someone why they hate rap, and they are all like, "oh because they talk about guns and killing people, they say slurs, and they degrade women" They cannot seem to come up with a reason that hasn't already been said. What they don't realize is that not ALL rap and hip hop talk about those things: love, struggling to make it and be somebody, earning respect, mouring someone (i.e. diddy's tribute to notorious B.I.G. & big pun's tribute) anyone's opinion is greatly appreciated, including people that dislike rap. HOWEVER, please give me a reason that hasn't already been said....

Most of those people that say they hate it are basically borderline racist. Just about every question I've seen on here that talks about rap has someone that always answers, "Rap sucks anyway" or "I hate rap." They have closed minds and think that all rap talks about negative things. I don't really listen to country music or rock, but I never trash them because I respect different styles of music. Anyone that goes out of there way to say they hate something without full knowledge of the subject is just sad and I feel sorry for them.

I dislike most rap songs for the reasons you already listed, but also because of the same reasons others have mentioned. They do not take too much talent to play a beat on a synthesizer, sample someone else's hit song, and then put your own words that you essentially "talk" not sing into the mic. I am not a big fan of hip-hop, but that is more because they all sound similar.

There are a few exceptions to the rule, of course. I like the humor infused in Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina", and the remake by Run DMC of "Walk This Way" was great. For hip-hop, I enjoy most of En Vogue's songs.

But the stuff going out today I just cannot relate to. Could be because I am in my 30's now and have acquired a more sophisticated taste. But I love all kinds of music, so I am not so sure. My range goes from the "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven or "Remember When" by Alan Jackson, all the way to "Going Under" by Evanescence or the remake of "Tainted Love" by Marilyn Manson.

I think for me the basic thing is the song has to stand out either lyrically or with its beat to appeal to me, and too much of rap and hip-hop sounds the same.

I personally do not hate rap/hip hop music. I myself like some underground and what I guess would be called 'old school' rap/hip hop. I do not like some of the current artists because I do not think their songs are very good either musically or lyrically.

As for cursing there are plenty of rock and other bands that curse too, so I've never really had a problem with the cursing in rap nor do I understand people's constant attack on rap/hip hop using that as a reason.

Well, I agree with you. I love classical music and I do NOT like rap or hip hop but I do not come here to bash it . I am surprised to find that some people do that. I guess it just inspires so much anger in some people. You could always report them if they are not answering questions properley ; they loose ten points each time.

You forgot the number one reason: "No one can understand what they are saying". Meanwhile try understanding Alexis On Fire or Slipknot the first time you hear them...
You can understand such artists, if you LISTEN to them!! If they don't like the music, perhaps it's just the sounds they object to. I understand that, I can't stand most Country music...it's just not a groove that I can get into.
I also dislike the artists who include unnecessarily violent and offensive lyrics in their rhymes. As you said, it isn't all artists. The majority maybe, which is why I dislike the majority of recent hip hop artists. However to truly say that they are totally against one type of music, they should actually know what they are talking about instead of repeating the same overused cliche's.
Good Question!!

I am not a fan of rap/hip hop because almost every time I hear a song it is a remake of another song from someone else . They just seem to copy others and that to me is no talent and not music. I must say though that I think Eminem is very talented his words are so deep and the music isn't bad either, although I have heard someone else's music in his too. I know some people like it, but it just isn't my thing, I love rock, pop and alternative music.

I dislike rap and hip hop because they do swear somewhat and I find that disturbing. Some music is really good, some is not. I'm personally, more into rock. As in, Evanescence and sometimes Nickelback too. That's what I think. And also, people who like rap or hip hop, that is totally awesome!

I can't really say I totally dislike all rap music, I've heard some that I think is alright. I guess the two main things is most of it is hard for me to relate to personally, and I dislike the repetition and monotone sound of it. I'm more into chords and harmonies.

i've given rap/hip hop many many chances to impress me, but it really hasn't yet. there are very few artists of the genre that seem to actually have talent. but to find those artists, you have to filter through all this other crap, the "look at my money, look at my fancy car, look at my designer clothes, look at all my bitches who want me, blah blah blah". instead of being creative and making a real statement, so many of them are just showing off their wealth, and that's a major turnoff for me. i don't give a damn how much money you have or how big your house is or how many women try to get in your pants, that doesn't concern me in the least. music is supposed to be the audio expression of your emotions and humanity, not your bank statement.

First of all, I like a very wide variety of music and yes even some rap in very small doses. I really can't listen to it for very long because it all starts sounding alike to me and gives me a headache. Maybe it's the bass thump that comes with it. Although you don't want me to say it, it's true a lot of it does talk about guns, killing, disrespecting women, that sort of thing. That is distasteful to me.

There are other kinds of music I don't like - alternative rock with all the screaming - ugh. I grew up in the 70s and listen classic rock and country mostly. I like a lot of the old Motown stuff and some of the newer R&B stuff. I like classical music and have gone to the symphony and really enjoyed it. I like bluegrass festivals. I like oldies and pop tunes. See? I listen to a wide variety of music. Rap and alternative rock are definately at the bottom of my list.

Lots of people see no point to it, think it's degrading, violent, repetitious, displays no talent, and so forth. That isn't what they hate about it. When it turns to hate is when they are FORCED to listen to it by idiots that weren't socialized enough and don't realize that nobody voted them to be a public DJ. Enjoy what you want; don't inflict it on others.
