Looking at a gift for a young teenager. It is an MP3 player that has 2GB of memory. Is this a decent amount or not? Does anyone know approx how many songs this will store?
(I know that last question is contingent on the song, just wanted an approximation).
Thanks so much!!!

Or, if anyone could tell me approx how much listening time this will allow, that would help...

2GB (2000mb) is perfect. The number of songs will vary depending on the compression used when converting them to the required format (often .MP3). You can use FreeRip (free download) to convert all of your CDs to MP3, and it allows you to select the digitisation rate. I prefer 128k (CD Quality) but the songs are then about 5mb each. This would store 400 songs (2000mb/5mb). If you compress at 112k then the files are about 3mb each so you can store more files but the quality is obviously lower.

This is definately an approx amount!! even my mp3 has 2GB memory and its not even full yet and i've had for an extremely long time and i keep storing new songs. knwing how many songs can be stored in a 2gb mp3 is never accurate coz it depends on how long the songs are, but u can definately store more than a 1000 songs, and im serious.

I have a 1 GB, it is fine for me

I needed a flash rom, over the HD ones, becuase I jog. with the HD based ones motion can really screw it becuase it has so many moving parts in it. with the flash no moving parts

1 GB = around 240 songs, so 2 would be 480

I like to change my MP3 around a lot, and dont like looking thur things so I dont need much space
