A wet dream is when semen (the fluid containing sperm) is discharged from the penis while a boy is asleep. Semen is released through the urethra - the same tube that urine (pee) comes out of. This is called ejaculation.

It will generally start when he reaches puberty and starts generating semen about 13. Sometimes a little before that age. If he has learned to masturbate, then that will decrease the nightly events. But some boys never have wet dreams or rarely do. If your son sleeps in underwear you will know it when he has one and will see the stains when you wash the clothes.

I have emailed back and forth with persons on these sorts of questions for many years now. And acordig to the honest answers from persons around the world who ahave access to the internet and who have interacted with me ( which by the way is no scientific sampling but probably a fair representatio of the facts) it happens accoriding to my collections of reports from as low as eitght and all the way up to 20, there are some who never have one and who do not masturbate. Masturbating can prevent you from ever having a true initial wet dream and that can have a major impact on thingslike your sexualidentity and your ability to enjoy sex later in life. When you have your first on depends on many factors. location, diet, culture etc.

It is fine to have a wet dream and you should not start masturbating at least until after you have one. If you start to masturbate you may never have one.

It is a good social experience. IT is really a great bonding factor for parents and children when the child is unaware that it is posisble and has one and in confusino and bewilderment then gos to his parents and has them experience explaining and educating him on it. Your sexual development should not be secret form your parents. THey are probably very uncomofrtable about how to respond. BUt it is agood social family experience and one that should be used to prepare the teen to be a responsible human being. This internet stuyff where every one else besides you parents tells you about sex is not that great. hOwever it is good because some do not have parents and others just do not have the relationship needed to be able to share their sexuality with their parents. THat is unfortunate becasue no one loves you as your parents do. YOur parents had sex or you would not be here. They know a lot about it. Ask them politely. It is not a GOd awful thing if you masturbate. It will effect your character ( and has already if you develope it as a habit. What you dream anbout of fantacize about will effect you and many many persons with sexually perverted lifestyles that develope into neroseses and cause dramatic harmful behavior to iothers is based in the practice of masturbation that has become an uncontrolable habit.
You should not be ashamed or feel bad if you masturbate. Many enjoy the masturbation and then feel guilt y and ashamed. That is not healthy or Good.
If you do not want to masturbate and end up struggling over the thoughts of doing it and then end u p doing it that is not healthy. It effects your self -esteme.
