Does it say 'Do Not Open Until Christmas'? If not then it is up to you. One year I was told to wait by someone else (not gift giver) and when we opening the gift we found stale cookies and moldy homemade dog biscuits... if you wait then don't think about it and if you choose not to wait--open it and you can either put the open gift under the tree to keep track of it or write your thank you note now and have it ready to post on Dec 26.

I would put it under the tree and open it on Christmas morning but totally up to you. Happy Holidays!

I think that you should wait. It is a Christmas gift and half of the fun is waking on Christmas and opening your presents.
