You can't judge by one election cycle. If the Democratic congress proves successful, leading to the election of a Democratic president, or even a very moderate Republican in 2008, then yes, you could say what Gingrich started is dead. But if the Dems fail, and the GOP bounces back in two years, then what the Democrats achieved in this past election will be perceived as a fluke.

Give the Democrats a chance. They are very good at screwing things up. If they are in their usual form the republicans have a excellent chance of taking the presidency in two years as well as taking back the house and senate.
This country is not as stupid as the democrats want to think they are.

Duh, destroyed it??? He actually has made it stronger, he wasn't the reason for the downslide, it was the corruption and all in the congress and senate that did it. The republicans will now be able to see what went wrong, fix it and we'll be on top in 2008 and the next midterm election. This was only a time out! Sorry, don't agree.

bush/rove and tom delay did major damage to the republican party, but it is not destroyed. as long as there are idiots (like in texas) who blindly follow the republican garbage no matter how bad it is. (by the way, i live in texas)
