What does a ball bearing do? What devices utilize a ball bearing, and how does the ball bearing function in that particular item (or, what does it allow the device to do?)?

It bears a load on balls.

Ball bearings are used to reduce friction. The inner "race" and outer "race" move relative to each other and the balls trapped between the inner and outer parts race around inbetween. The friction is reduced over just drilling a hole and letting a shaft rotate in that hole because the balls roll rather than slide. So... a bearing is used to reduce friction while still carrying (or bearing) the load.

Bearings are everywhere shafts rotate but are limited in that the contact point between a ball and surface approaches a point load. For heavy loads solid bearings (like in an engine) are used or roller bearings that have a line of contact rather than a point (railroad car shafts).

A 4 point contact ball bearingA ball bearing is a common type of rolling-element bearing, a kind of bearing.

The term ball bearing sometimes means a bearing assembly which uses spherical bearings as the rolling elements. It also means an individual ball for a bearing assembly. The remainder of this entry uses the term ball for the individual component and ball bearing or just "bearing" for the assembly.

Ball bearings typically support both axial and radial loads and can tolerate some misalignment of the inner and outer races. Also, balls are relatively easy to make cheaply compared to other kinds of rolling elements. Ball bearings tend to have lower load capacity for their size than other kinds of rolling-element bearings due to the smaller contact area that spherical shapes

Most ball bearing are round pieces of metal. They are used to make wheels roll easier and to stop friction between items. They are also used to put in land mines and bombs which when are exploded it send the bearing flying every where and killing anything they hits.

ball bearing are certain sphere shaped balls mainly used in wheels this is done to make the wheel move easily without jerky movement.these are made using metals like iron ,brass, rarely aluminium.pal i have given the best out of me. i am studying in standard 7.so this is the maximum
