Most physical therapists are now graduating with DPTs: Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Many PTs who have been practicing for years are earning this degree through transitional programs. Anyone who has earned a Doctorate degree will be known as a Doctor, not just doctors of medicine (MD).

Other doctors, not medical doctors, include chiropractors, podiatrists, doctors of education, anyone who has earned a PhD in any subject matter (a person can be a Doctor of Mathematics).
